Everything you wanted to know about Neuronox, but were afraid to ask!

To rejuvenate and restore lost beauty, many women turn to cosmetology services. One of the most popular procedures today is Botox injections.

The question arises: what is the difference between the use of Botox, Dysport and others? Which one is considered more effective and which one is more expensive? Let's try to understand these issues.

Botulinum toxin type A has been used for cosmetic purposes for several decades. Its goal is to eliminate facial wrinkles and correct hyperhidrosis. The toxin blocks the neuromuscular signal, relaxing the muscle. Known drugs: Botox, Dysport, Relatox, Xeomin, Lantox.

What it is?

Reference. Neuronox is a muscle relaxant that is produced in South Korea by the pharmaceutical company Medytox Inc. The drug is made on the basis of botulinum toxin type A, which has undergone a deep degree of purification and stabilization with hemagglutinin and proteins.

Each molecule of the neurotoxin complex weighs 900 kDa, which prevents its movement into surrounding tissues. The drug is available in the form of a dry white powder, packaged in glass bottles of 50, 100 and 200 units.

The safety of Neuronox has been proven by numerous clinical trials and experience of practical use exceeding 10 years.
The official distributor of the drug in Russia is New Line Cosmetology (NLC). The drug is used to fill small expression wrinkles in the face, neck and décolleté, as well as to change the contour of the lips. It is worth noting that we are talking about a change in shape, not volume - it causes temporary paralysis of the orbicularis oris muscle, which makes the lips less wrinkled and the line smoother. Neuronox injections also help get rid of excessive sweating in the feet, palms and armpits. Read about other Korean-made botulinum toxin preparations here.

Advantages

  • The cost is lower than that of analogues, without sacrificing quality.
  • Safety and low likelihood of side effects.
  • The effect lasts from 5 to 7 months, depending on the individual characteristics of the body.
  • Practical and convenient packaging.

Flaws

  1. Prohibited for use under 18 years of age.
  2. Not suitable for people with individual intolerance to the components.

Comparative list of botulinum toxin composition:

  • Activity units - display the dosage of drugs, where one dosage unit is equal to the average lethal dose for medium-sized laboratory mice.
  • Molecular mass - the smaller the element size, the higher the diffusion of the injected drug, and accordingly, the larger area will be involved by injection.
Important! In the hands of an inexperienced cosmetologist, this can lead to side effects and paralysis of the muscles around the treatment area. However, if the procedure is performed correctly, the effect will come quickly and will be noticeable immediately.
  • Albumin is a protein component that stabilizes the effect of the substance. The more of it there is in the injection drug, the milder its effect.
  • Excipients also have a softening and stabilizing effect on the diffusion and dynamics of the drug.

Qualitative comparison of botulinum toxins

Botox / Botox (USA, Allergan)

Botox is a drug rightfully called the “standard of botulinum therapy.” It contains processed botulinum toxin type A in combination with human serum albumin (0.5 mg) and sodium chloride (0.9 mg). The large molecular size of 900 kDa and high albumin content (average value among other drugs) gives Botox limited diffusion and makes it possible to obtain the desired result even in difficult injection sites. This reduces the number of complications, consequences, and also preserves natural facial expressions. Botox has a medium strength and provides a softening effect compared to other medications, so doctors advise starting the botulinum therapy process with the administration of this substance. The price of Botox fluctuates around 350-400 rubles per unit.

Approximate number of units of Botox:

  • eye area: 10-20 units.
  • bridge of the nose: 5-15 units.
  • forehead area: 5-10 units.

The result of the drug appears 4-5 days after the injection, and the full effect is visible after 2 weeks. The duration of action of botulinum toxin type A in Botox will be about 4 months.

Consequences and complications of Botox

Negative consequences are quite rare, but there is a possibility of occurrence:

  • Local effects, relatively harmless consequences that are associated with the body’s reaction to the drug: subcutaneous hemorrhages, allergic processes, swelling, redness and irritation in the injection area, a feeling of “tightness”. They disappear on their own within a few hours or days.
  • General effects: allergic reactions, paresthesia (impaired tactile and temperature sensitivity, pain during touch), gastrointestinal disorders, migraine, muscle fatigue.
  • With repeated increases in the dose, difficulty breathing and swallowing may occur, which indicates insufficient qualifications of the expert who performed the procedure.
  • External consequences are often the result of the work of an inexperienced specialist. These include: ptosis and diplopia, facial asymmetry, mask-like face. They appear when the toxin is injected into the wrong area or the dosage of the substance is incorrectly selected.

Dysport (France, Ipsen)

Dysport is considered the main competitor to Botox. It contains botulinum toxin type A, human serum albumin (125 mcg), and an additional substance - lactose monohydrate (2.5 mg). The drug is characterized by a high ability to diffuse into nearby tissues and a lower molecular weight. The low concentration of albumin significantly increases the intensity of its effect, and thanks to experienced cosmetologists, it allows you to achieve excellent results.

Approximately 1 unit of Botox is equivalent to 2.5-3 units of Dysport. The price of a unit of Dysport will be approximately 120-150 rubles. But thanks to the introduction of a larger volume of units, the price of Botox and Dysport is almost the same.

Approximate dosage of Dysport units:

  • bridge of the nose: 20-55 units.
  • forehead area: 20-40 units.
  • eye area: 35-75 units.

The effect of Dysport appears a little faster than Botox and is visible already 2-3 days after the procedure. However, the maximum effect appears, like Botox, 14 days after the injection and lasts about 5 months.

Negative consequences and complications of Dysport

The advantage and disadvantage of this product is the ability to diffuse into adjacent tissues. As a result, the chance of undesirable phenomena, such as drooping of the upper eyelid, raising of the eyebrows, etc., increases. But a knowledgeable doctor is able to transform this disadvantage into an advantage and soften the effect of the correction, making it more natural.

Xeomin / Xeomin (Germany, Merz Aesthetics)

Xeomin is a new drug with botulinum toxin type A. The drug also contains 1 mg of albumin and 4.7 mg of sucrose.

The low molecular weight of 150 kDa is compensated by the high albumin content of 1 mg. Xeomin's effect on tissue is more similar to Botox than to Dysport. It has a softer effect and an average level of diffusion into the tissue. The drug is easy to use, even a novice doctor can handle it. Xeomin does not provide special storage conditions (unlike other drugs) and can be stored at room temperature. Used to correct the upper, middle, lower parts of the face, periorbital area, and neck. 1 unit of Xeomin is approximately equivalent to 1 unit of Botox.

The effect of the drug is achieved 2-3 days after injection, the final effect is observed on 12-14 days. The price and concentration of the drug are similar to Botox, but the albumin content is 2 times higher in Xeomin, hence the shorter effect of the toxin (from 3 to 6 months).

Side effects of Xeomin

Possible side effects: swelling, burning, bruising in the injection area, and headache. Due to improper administration of the drug, undesirable consequences such as ptosis of the upper eyelid, sagging tissue, and facial asymmetry occur.

Neuronox / Neuronox (South Korea, Medytox)

Neuronox is an analogue of drugs that contain botulinum toxin type A (100 units), human serum albumin (500 mcg), and sodium chloride (900 mcg). The composition is the same as Botox. The advantage of this product is its inability to penetrate into nearby tissues, the reason for this is the high molecular weight and average concentration of albumin.

Neuronox is widely used for the temporary correction of hyperhidrosis and smoothing of facial wrinkles. Complications and side effects are the same as Botox.

Lantox / Lantox (China, Lanzhou Institute of Biological Products)

The drug includes botulinum toxin type A (50 or 100 units) and a number of auxiliary components: gelatin 5 mg, dextran 25 mg and sucrose 25 mg. Gelatin increases the stability of the toxin and helps prevent its excessive diffusion into adjacent tissues. Lantoxa has proven itself to be effective in smoothing out wrinkles and combating hyperhidrosis. The drug begins to act on the second day after injection, reaching its maximum effect on the 14th day. The results obtained last for 3-6 months.

In practice, Lantox demonstrated high results and average diffusion. The effect at the same dosage is stronger than Botox and softer than Dysport.

Side effects and complications of Lantox

When the drug is used correctly in the right dosage, the occurrence of side effects is minimized and occurs in only 10% of patients. The consequences include: swelling and redness of the dermis in the injection area, small bruises or ecchymosis, migraines. In 3% of cases, allergic reactions to the components of the drug may occur. 3% of cases include complications such as allergic reactions to the components of the drug, ptosis/disarticulation/asymmetry (with diffusion of Lantox into nearby muscles).

Relatox (Russia, Federal State Unitary Enterprise NPO Microgen)

Relatox is the first medical product that contains domestically produced botulinum toxin. It contains gelatin (6 mg) and maltose (12 mg). The absence of albumin and a small particle size of 100-150 microns provides an accelerated effect, unlike Lantox.

Indications for use of Relatox:

  • Expression wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, mouth, bridge of the nose, as well as on the bridge of the nose
  • Excessive sweating of the armpits, palms and soles of the feet
  • Persistent muscle spasms

Already half an hour after injection of the medication, a visible effect occurs, reaching a maximum after a few days. The duration of action of the drug is 6-8 months. The dosage and unit of measurement are identical to Botox, so it is easier for cosmetologists to switch from one substance to another.

One of the advantages is its cost: a unit of Relatox will cost on average 10-15% less than Botox. Among the disadvantages, we note the relative pain of injections, compared with other drugs, and the increased ability to diffusion.

Indications:

  1. Age and expression wrinkles around the eyes.

  2. Mimic longitudinal wrinkles on the forehead.
  3. Interbrow fold.
  4. Crow's feet in the corners of the eyes.
  5. Nasolabial fold.
  6. Drooping eyelids and drooping corners of the eyebrows.
  7. Wrinkles in the décolleté area.

The use of botulinum therapy in cosmetology

Botulinum toxin type A is a drug that can act on nerve fibers. Initially, it was used only for therapeutic purposes: to treat ischemia, brain and spinal cord injuries. Botulinum therapy has also shown effectiveness in treating migraines and other types of headaches. Soon the drug began to be used to get rid of wrinkles and hyperhidrosis. This is how aesthetic botulinum therapy appeared. In case of increased sweating, the drug is injected into the area of the feet, palms, and armpits.

In cosmetic compositions for injections, BTA is not used in its pure form. The work uses stabilized botulinum toxin type A, which is purified from impurities.

“Relatox”, “Xeomin”, “Dysport”, “Botox” are drugs for botulinum therapy that can eliminate wrinkles on the face, neck, and décolleté. They are injected intramuscularly (sometimes subcutaneously) into the problem area with microneedles. The procedure is painless for people with a high pain threshold.

Cosmetic procedures using botulinum toxin A are officially registered and approved by the Russian Ministry of Health.

Botulinum therapy BTA has been practiced for a long time. Choose a certified professional with extensive experience in the field. Cosmetologists use the “whole face” tactic to rid patients of wrinkles of any depth. Experts do not recommend adjusting each zone separately. Indeed, in this case, the areas of the face will be different. With one-time botulinum therapy of the entire face, taking into account the individual characteristics of the client, the result looks better.

The cosmetic procedure will relieve tension in any part of the body and help get rid of asymmetry. Botulinum therapy is used to change the relief of the calves, correct the gluteus maximus muscle or deltas. This procedure has its own characteristics and unique techniques.

Long-term Botox injections soften facial features and make the skin look less tight.

Botulinum toxin makes scars less noticeable and smooth. To do this, the drug must be administered during the wound healing period. The active components relax the muscles, thereby smoothing the edges of the damaged area.

Cost of the procedure

On a note. Only a cosmetologist who has documents confirming his medical education and certificates of special training in working with botulinum toxins type A can purchase the drug.

On average, the price per bottle varies from 5,000 to 8,000 rubles.

The cost of the procedure depends on the injection area:

  • Forehead - from 2000 to 8000 rubles.
  • The space between the eyebrows, the bridge of the nose – from 3500 to 9000 rubles.
  • Nose, nasolabial folds – from 800 to 1500 rubles.
  • Lip contour from 800 to 1500 rub.
  • Elimination of wrinkles on the neck - from 16,000 to 25,000 rubles.
  • The area around the eyes – from 3000 to 7000 rubles.

Administration of drugs for botulinum therapy to eliminate transverse wrinkles on the nose

After thirty years, when the mechanisms of aging start, people begin to develop wrinkles on their nose. Some people encounter this problem a little earlier. The reasons for the early appearance of wrinkles are:

  • swelling of the nose due to excessive drinking of water before bedtime;
  • bad ecology;
  • premature aging.

To eliminate transverse wrinkles on the nose, a vitamin cocktail is injected into two points located on different sides of the patient’s nose.

How is the procedure carried out in the salon?

Neuronox injections do not require special pre-procedural preparation from the patient. However, a week before the injections, you need to stop taking antibiotic drugs, as they enhance the effect of the toxin and can provoke the development of side effects.

Immediately before the start of the procedure, the cosmetologist questions the patient about the presence of allergic reactions to the components of the drug and, using a special marker, marks the points for introducing the substance. For injection, a solution with a 0.9% concentration is prepared based on sodium chloride.

The prepared solution can be stored for no more than 4 hours, and immediately after the procedure it must be deactivated with a 1% sodium hydrochloride solution.

Botox injections are a fairly painful procedure. Therefore, the doctor may suggest the use of a special anesthetic gel. In order for the analgesic to take effect, you need to wait 30 to 50 minutes.

Dysport (Reloxin, Azzalure) is another well-known botulinum toxin-based product

The main difference between Botox and Dysport is the manufacturing process. Botox is produced through multiple cleansing chemical and biochemical reactions, while Dysport is produced more easily and therefore costs less. However, the low price is balanced by lower activity - patients are administered more units of the drug. The difference in cost is relative.

The composition of Dysport also differs from Botox. Its main active ingredient, abobotulinumtoxinA, is distributed in tissues over a large area. This is a mild preparation that gives the most natural result. Therefore, many cosmetologists advise starting botulinum therapy with Dysport. Due to its wide distribution in tissues, the administration of Dysport requires fewer injections.

The drug begins to act quite quickly - results are visible within a day. Dysport lasts for about 3-4 months, but for some it stays in the tissues longer than Botox. During this time, you need to do a couple more sessions to consolidate the effect.

Dysport before and after

Result

The first changes will be noticeable after 3 days. The final result will be visible after 2 weeks. The procedure can be repeated, if necessary, after 10 months.

Side effects

  • Swelling or hematomas in the injection area. As a rule, they go away on their own after 2-4 days.
  • Asymmetry of facial features, hypertonicity of the upper eyelid.
  • Dryness and burning of the eyeball.
  • Migraines, headaches as a temporary reaction of the body to the drug.

The importance of botulinum therapy in neurology

Intramuscular botulinum therapy in neurology: what is it and what is it used for? A protein neurotoxin is injected into the muscle. The procedure is monitored using ultrasound.

Botulinum toxin type A is used for cosmetic purposes. It is necessary to carefully select a specialist and follow the dosage. If the recommendations are not followed, the drug can cause death in humans.

The following can be treated with Botox with minimal complications:

  1. All forms of cerebral palsy.
  2. Local spasms that occur after a stroke or injury.
  3. Axillary hyperhidrosis.
  4. Chronic migraine.

Botulinum toxin cannot cure the disease completely; it only blocks discomfort and involuntary spasms.

Can it be used in combination with other drugs?

Cosmetologists recommend combining Neuronox injections with mesotherapy injections, thread lifting or contouring. The interval between procedures should be at least two weeks. Botox immobilizes the facial muscles, allowing the drugs to be distributed better under the skin. The effects of procedures performed against the background of Botox become more noticeable.

Can it be combined with alcohol?

As mentioned earlier, alcoholic beverages are prohibited for patients during the period of preparation for injections, as well as 4 days after the procedure.

When does the effect become noticeable?

The primary result after intramuscular injection of Neuronox becomes noticeable 2-3 days after the injection, and the final result is assessed after 7-10 days (during this time, botulinum toxin completely blocks the work of facial muscles, which helps smooth out wrinkles). The effect lasts for 5-7 months, after which it is recommended to repeat the procedure (the drug is not addictive, and the duration of the effect increases after each repeated injection).

“The effect of the injection of Neuronox botulinum toxin becomes noticeable only after 7-10 days and this is the only thing my clients complain about (after Botox, the result can be assessed after 3-4 days), otherwise everyone is happy with it.”

Preparation and implementation of botulinum therapy procedures in the clinic

At a preliminary consultation before botulinum therapy, the clinic doctor calculates the amount of the drug required to achieve a good effect. A vitamin cocktail is injected into the problem area with a microneedle. Patients with a low pain threshold are pre-injected with an anesthetic.

After 2-7 days you will feel your muscles relax. You can compare what happened before and after botulinum therapy and evaluate the result of the procedure fourteen days after the injection. The vitamin cocktail is effective for 3–4 months, after which it dissolves.

Botulinum toxin does not affect muscle mass, shape and volume. It does not disrupt internal processes! A vitamin cocktail injected into a muscle penetrates the nerve endings. Then it blocks the transmission of impulses, which entails muscle relaxation.

The most popular question: “Does botulinum toxin create a mask effect on the face?” No, the drug only relaxes muscle fibers. In this case, facial abilities are not impaired, the face remains mobile, and its naturalness is preserved.

Particular attention should be paid to the choice of clinic and specialist. The beauty of your face will depend on this decision. You need to focus not on price criteria, but on the experience of a specialist and your inner feelings. You must trust your doctor completely.

At the preliminary consultation, be sure to tell the cosmetologist how you see the result, provide detailed information about existing diseases and individual characteristics. Also tell your specialist if you are taking medications. Before carrying out the procedure, the doctor is obliged to provide you with informed consent for signature and set a date for the manipulation.

Procedure for botulinum therapy:

  1. Makeup removal, cleansing the skin, drying with a paper towel.
  2. Disinfection with an antiseptic or alcohol solution. If the pain threshold is low, local anesthesia is given at this stage.
  3. Botulinum toxin is injected into the designated points.
  4. Repeated treatment with antiseptic.

The procedure time is 25–30 minutes. What should you not do after botulinum therapy? For 4–5 hours, it is not recommended to lie down, touch your face with your hands, bend over, squat, drink alcohol, exfoliate, go to the bathhouse or solarium.

It is not without reason that botulinum therapy is rapidly gaining popularity in the list of cosmetic procedures. It has established itself as an effective and safe procedure for removing wrinkles. The procedure allows you to get rid of aesthetic skin defects and muscle dysfunction. To get a good result, botulinum therapy must be carried out by a competent specialist. The procedure has virtually no contraindications and is permitted for most patients.
