Dysport is a drug based on botulinum toxin type A, produced in the UK.
According to the mechanism of action, it is an analogue of the drug Botox, having exactly the same indications for use, as well as a similar high safety profile. In Russia, the drug is sold in bottles of 300 and 500 units. However, unlike the revolutionary Botox, which has been used in cosmetology for more than 25 years, Dysport began to be used in anti-aging procedures only since 2004.
For those who decide to remove treacherous wrinkles on the face, neck or décolleté, the French analogue of the American muscle relaxant often becomes an excellent alternative to a plastic surgeon’s scalpel. At the same time, not only women, but also men can maintain smooth skin with the help of Dysport.
What is Dysport and how does it work?
Normally, all facial muscles are attached to the skin at one end. Muscle contraction during smiling, talking and other movements provides facial expressions. In youth, a high degree of elasticity of the skin ensures its tone, but with age, the tone decreases, and facial movements lead to the formation of folds and wrinkles.
Both Dysport and Botox are types of neuroparalytic poison, which are used in cosmetology in concentrations that are safe for health. But even in a small dosage, botulinum toxin, when it enters tissue, can block the action of acetylcholine, which normally leads to muscle contraction.
Thanks to this, for a certain period of time the muscles are in a state of flaccid paralysis, and wrinkles simply disappear for some time. After injections, a person cannot frown or squint as before. Typically, the effect of botulinum toxin lasts from 6-8 to 10-12 months. The duration of the effect depends on the number of injections and the type of drugs that are injected into the muscle tissue according to indications. Microinjections of Dysport into the corrected areas do not cause loss of skin sensitivity.
The drug Dysport has undergone clinical trials in 120 countries and has been used in the CIS countries for more than 10 years. The main area of administration is the areas located in the upper half of the face (forehead, eyes, nose).
Question answer
This can happen if a person has taken antibiotics.
This combination is not recommended. Another reason may be the frequent repeated administration of Botox; at least 4-6 months should pass between procedures. In addition, the lack of effect may be hereditary insensitivity to botulinum toxin. There are reasons for this. This mainly happens if the patient does not adhere to the rules of the recovery period. For example, he drank alcohol or ate too salty food. Also, severe swelling occurs due to increased dosage.
This is because the doctor may have chosen the wrong dose. This also happens in people with little or no sensitivity to botulinum toxin type A.
Composition and effect of Dysport on the skin
The active ingredient in all beauty injections, incl. and dysport, is a highly purified botulinum exotoxin type A. It is capable of mildly paralyzing facial muscles, while temporarily and selectively blocking their mobility. So the drug has a relaxing effect on the skin, while smoothing and eliminating facial wrinkles. Aesthetic medicine classifies Dysport as one of the best drugs for rejuvenating the face, neck and décolleté.
In the manufacture of this product, the French company Beaufour Ipsen uses a different method of purifying exotoxin A than some of its competitors who produce analogues of the drug, for example, the American Botox manufacturers Allergan. Therefore, the content of active units in these drugs is fundamentally different, as is their equivalence. A certain amount of the drug must be applied to each individual area of the face, which can only be calculated by a specialist. To achieve the same result as with Botox, you will have to purchase 2-3 more doses of Dysport than its analogue.
Neurotoxin A is thoroughly purified and contained in Dysport in microscopic doses, so it cannot adversely affect the human body. At the same time, this substance acts as a medicinal and cosmetic product. In addition, Dysport is characterized by high diffusion, when it penetrates deep into the cells of the epidermis and neighboring muscles and has a beneficial effect on them. The effect is especially noticeable if a woman has dry and wrinkled skin with many facial folds. In this case, the active substances of Dysport smooth the skin not only at the injection site, but also in neighboring areas.
It should be borne in mind that the effect of Dysport does not apply to deep wrinkles. Experts recommend using Botox for those with oily skin and deep wrinkles. It has a targeted effect and penetrates deeper into the skin. While dysport does not act locally, but is distributed evenly over large areas of the epidermis.
Many women are afraid that with repeated administration of the drug the concentration of botulinum toxin A will increase, and are wondering whether Dysport is harmful in this case? Research shows that this substance does not increase with repeated use, so Dysport cannot cause harm to health. Cosmetologists often recommend carrying out botulinum therapy starting with small doses, subsequently puncturing individual areas, thereby bringing the skin surface to perfection.

Dysport or Botox - what is the difference and which is better?
Dysport - what is it? Muscle relaxant. The drug Botox, manufactured by the American company Allergan, has a similar effect.
What is the key difference between Botox and Dysport? Firstly, the concentration of botulinum toxin. One unit of Botox is equivalent to 2.5-3 units of Dysport. That is, to achieve a comparable result, the latter must be administered in a dose that is 2.5-3 times higher than the dose of Botox. Another difference between the drugs is the speed of manifestation and duration of the effect. Dysport begins to act 2-3 days after the injection, and the results of its use last a little longer (although not much) than after the injection of Botox.
The maximum effect of both drugs develops approximately 10-14 days after injection. Therefore, looking at the long term, we can say that there are no differences between Botox and Dysport.
Some researchers claim that Dysport exhibits greater tissue penetration than Botox. On the one hand, if this property is used correctly, you can get a result that will look more natural. On the other hand, it is diffusion that often becomes the cause of unpleasant side effects, expressed in the form of drooping eyebrows or eyelids. Experts advise treating the bridge of the nose and forehead with Dysport, and using Botox for the eyebrows and corners of the eyes.
It is a widely known statement by the Allergan company (manufacturer of the drug Botox) that Dysport stimulates the body to produce antibodies to neutralize botulinum toxin, thereby neutralizing the effect of botulinum therapy. However, reviews from practicing specialists confirm the opposite - it is Botox, and not Dysport, that tends to trigger the body’s defense reaction. It is not known for certain which side is right in these “marketing wars”. As for the production of antibodies, the body triggers it only when a dose exceeding 200 units is administered. What is Dysport in cosmetology? This is only 40 to 120 units of botulinum toxin.
When deciding whether to choose Dysport or Botox, you need to know that the fundamental difference between these agents is the concentration of botulinum toxin and its ability to penetrate and distribute in tissues. In most treatment rooms, clients are offered both drugs, but the choice in favor of a particular one is usually made by a specialist based on the needs of the client and the characteristics of his body.
In what cases is Dysport used?
Dysport is used in cosmetology mainly to achieve results in the following procedures:
- correction of the shape of the eyebrows, their lowering;
- lip shape correction;
- elimination of small wrinkles;
- correction of facial wrinkles;
- treatment of excessive sweating of the palms, feet and armpits;
- elimination of folds between the eyebrows and horizontal wrinkles on the forehead;
- smoothing wrinkles in the nose area, on its back and wings;
- when you need to eliminate crow's feet around the eyes.
Excessive activity of the masticatory muscles in people whose teeth wear out as a result and grinding occurs is also an indication for Dysport injections.
Indications
The drug is injected into the muscles. This injection does not require much time. The main thing is that it is carried out by a good specialist.
The drug is used for cosmetic purposes in certain situations.
INDICATIONS
- when facial wrinkles appear on the face;
- to correct the shape of lips and eyebrows;
- with hyperhidrosis (a human condition in which sweating increases in the feet, palms, and armpits);
- for children with cerebral palsy.
Dysport is used not only by cosmetologists, but also by doctors. For example, the drug is prescribed for ophthalmic pathologies.
There are cases when no effect is observed after the procedure. This happens if a person is not susceptible to botulinum toxin type A. According to statistics, this happens in 4% of patients.

Contraindications
Dysport has contraindications for use in cosmetology, according to the instructions for use, only 4 points. Absolute contraindications:
- pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- children under 18 years of age,
- allergy to one of the components of the drug,
- inflammatory processes in the injection area.
However, there are also relative contraindications, and in the following situations the use of the drug is also not optimal:
- for bleeding disorders,
- with Eaton-Lambert syndrome, amyotrophic sclerosis, myasthenia gravis and systemic lupus erythematosus, as well as other autoimmune diseases,
- when taking medications that can disrupt neuromuscular transmission (aminoglycosides, penicillamine, quinine),
- in case of inadequacy and imbalance of the patient.
In the period 3-4 days before the onset of menstruation, women experience a gradual decrease in blood clotting. Her indicators are restored a few days after their end. Thus, during this period it is not advisable to carry out any injections, because There will be a high risk of hemorrhage.

Reviews
To be convinced of the advantages of Dysport among its analogues and to justify the price, it is recommended to read some reviews:
SVETLANA, 43 YEARS OLD:
“Many of my friends are hesitant to get injections for fear of a negative reaction, facial deformation, etc. But I regularly go for Dysport injections, which helps me look great.
The main thing is to trust a good professional. Sometimes I encountered minor side effects that disappeared after a couple of days. I developed swelling and bruising in the area where the injection was administered.
Initially, I didn’t know which rejuvenation product to choose. I read a lot of information, looked at photos of women’s results on VK and other social networks. I decided to use Dysport.
I have been regularly going to the injection procedure for four years. The only thing that upsets me is that I didn’t come across this product earlier.
If I had started using Dysport at the age of 30, I would probably have protected myself from large creases. But even at my age, the drug shows excellent results.”
ANASTASIA, 35 YEARS OLD:
“I would like to share my delight with all women.
I advise you to cast aside all doubts and decide to introduce Dysport. This is an excellent procedure that can remove wrinkles and give elasticity to the skin, which is confirmed by the before and after photos. After the administration of the drug, 3 weeks passed, the wrinkles in the corners of the eyes and on the forehead disappeared.
They started paying more attention to me, men complimented me. The procedure helped me forget about how to wrinkle my forehead. I’m happy and will continue to use Dysport.”
ELENA, 28 YEARS OLD:
“Probably every woman is afraid of growing old.
I have a lot of different ointments, creams, masks with which I take care of my face. But they could not protect me from developing wrinkles. I found out about the product Dysport, watched the video, started studying information about the product from Wikipedia and other sources, it can be used even at the age of 28. I read the reviews, decided not to look for analogues, found out the price and began to persuade my husband to give me money from the budget.
I approached the choice of the clinic with special responsibility. I came across a wonderful doctor who explained the procedure in detail.
I was pleasantly surprised by the result. The wrinkles have practically disappeared, now I don’t wrinkle my forehead, and it doesn’t interfere with living as before. 4 months have already passed since the second procedure, and I have lost the habit of wrinkling my forehead and eyebrows. I recommend this wonderful remedy to everyone.”
For what areas of the face is Dysport effective?
The optimal area for the correction of facial wrinkles is the area of the upper half of the face. With age, the lower part of the face is more susceptible to gravitational ptosis (drooping) of soft tissues.
Therefore, jowls (folds of excess skin) or “purse-string” - vertical - wrinkles in the perioral area (around the mouth) require an integrated approach to their elimination. Dysport injections in this area are usually not enough.
Depending on the aesthetic goal, you will need: contouring (filling with fillers) or surgical facial plastic surgery. For example, with pronounced jowls - “bulldog cheeks” - only surgical intervention will help eliminate the cosmetic defect.
Positive and possible side effects
The positive result of introducing Dysport will be:
- a calmer and more youthful facial expression;
- complete disappearance of small wrinkles and smoothing of deep ones by two-thirds of their size;
- the skin turgor will be strengthened - it will become more elastic and smooth;
- It will be possible to control facial expressions and not make unnecessary emotional movements with the facial muscles.
A side effect of botulinum therapy can be an individual reaction to Dysport, which disappears within a period of 3-5 days to a month:
- headache, dizziness;
- nausea, weakness;
- burning, itching, pain at injection sites;
- local swelling, bruising or mild redness;
- if Dysport injections were performed in the periocular area, lacrimation or double vision may occur;
- general malaise with symptoms similar to viral infections: fever, chills and others.
Complications
Sometimes after the procedure, patients feel stiffness in their face. It feels like a mask is applied to the skin.
You may experience local side effects. This may include soreness and headache. But they disappear within a week.
Dermatological surgeon Keren Beasley
As with any injection, bruising may occur. Avoid taking anticoagulants a week before your session. This also applies to alcohol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which include Aspirin and Advil.
If you have a headache after Dysport injections, you can take ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
There have been cases when people encountered the following complications:
- eyelid drooping;
- the fold between the nose and lip was distorted;
- eyebrows rose;
- swelling and hematomas appeared.
Often such problems arise due to insufficient qualifications of the specialist who performed the procedure or individual intolerance to the drug.
Also, such consequences may appear due to a greatly increased dosage. Therefore, it is important that a person chooses a good specialist.
If, nevertheless, the patient encounters such complications, he needs to consult a doctor. Massage of the injection area, myostimulation, and the use of vitamin complexes can help in such a situation.
There are also possible side effects. Some people complain of aches, pain in the injection area, and swelling after the procedure. But these are short-term consequences that can be endured for the sake of beauty and youthful skin.
There is a small percentage of people whose body does not accept the drug, so the injection does not bring results. There are also patients who have developed resistance to the drug.
This led to the fact that after the second procedure the effect did not appear. Therefore, you need to remember that a person’s individual characteristics can affect the final result.
Effect after use
The effect occurs already on the first day after the injections, which only increases over time and reaches its maximum after 10-15 days. All existing small, medium wrinkles and deep furrows disappear, as if by magic! Feedback from patients suggests that without plastic surgery, you can quickly eliminate the signs of aging and even out the skin texture.
The effect from the first application of Dysport lasts up to six months, from the second and subsequent injections – from 6 to 9 months.
At the Academy VIP clinic in Nizhny Novgorod, procedures with Dysport are performed by cosmetologists of the highest category with more than 15 years of experience. In a multidisciplinary medical center, the patient can undergo a comprehensive examination to identify contraindications and receive recommendations on additional ways to improve skin texture.
- We work only with certified original Dysport. The effectiveness and safety of the procedure depends on this.
- The clinic complies with the storage conditions for the drug. If the temperature is not observed, use of Dysport is prohibited. We strictly comply with the manufacturer's requirements.
- We do not use an opened bottle for longer than the permissible period. The health of patients is our priority. We do everything to minimize the likelihood of complications.

You can make an appointment for a preliminary consultation with a VIP Academy cosmetologist by calling +7 (831) 270-00-00.
Price
Having learned what kind of procedure it is with Dysport, one begins to wonder about the price of the service and where to buy the product. Of course, every woman wants to look beautiful and young, but not everyone can afford it. This is due to the fact that the cost of rejuvenation with the help of Dysport is quite high.
The price may vary depending on which clinic was chosen; it is recommended to initially read reviews about it. Some experts offer to pay 400 rubles per unit of product, while other cosmetologists offer the cost of about 100 rubles.
Zone | Number of units |
bridge of the nose | 10-20 |

Alternatives
As you know, the action of botulinum toxin is aimed at relaxing facial muscles, but drugs based on it cannot increase the volume of tissue in the area of deep wrinkles.
For these purposes, contouring is used with dermal fillers based on hyaluronic acid (Teosyal, Surgiderm and Juvederm, Yvoire and Restylane), as well as other contouring fillers based on collagen, calcium and L-lactic acid.
