Blepharoplasty helps in solving the following problems:
- smoothing out crow's feet, age wrinkles, and nasolacrimal grooves;
- “elimination” of overhanging skin on the upper eyelids, drooping eyelid;
- a change in the situation with the outer corners of the eyes, which are directed downward and thereby give the face a constantly sad expression;
- combating bags under the eyes that appear due to accumulations of fatty tissue, called fatty hernias;
- correction of the cut or shape of the eyes;
- elimination of lower eyelid inversion;
- ethnic corrections in order to approach the “European appearance” (removal of the epicanthus and many fatty hernias, formation of a fold in the upper eyelid);
- correction of asymmetry in the area around the eyes.
By the way, contrary to popular belief, blepharoplasty is not always relevant for women over 40-45 years old. In our clinic, there are often cases of surgical intervention in young girls and women - for example, when it is necessary to remove fatty hernias under the eyes or skin hanging over the upper eyelids and giving the face a gloomy, unfriendly expression.
Here we will talk about laser eyelid blepharoplasty as a worthy alternative to conventional laser surgery. In our clinic, laser blepharoplasty is performed more often than usual. And now you will find out why.
What is laser eyelid resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is a method of targeted, targeted influence of a beam of light on different layers of the skin. The advantage of this method is that it works with layers of the epidermis located at different depths without damaging the upper layer. Due to the specific radiation spectrum, the light beam affects only specific components of the skin - chromophores:
- water that is in the cells;
- hemoglobin, which is present in blood vessels;
- melatonin pigment.
Only these substances of the epidermis are affected by laser radiation, each of them has its own range of susceptibility. Thanks to the different ranges, the cosmetologist can precisely set the radiation spectrum and light wavelength, which will remove scars on the eyelids without deforming the structure of delicate skin.
Laser resurfacing after blepharoplasty is completely optional. Many patients have a positive outcome from the recovery period, and the incision areas after eyelid surgery are not noticeable. But if you want to bring your eyes to perfection, then it is better to take a course of laser resurfacing procedures.
If good quality blepharoplasty has been done, laser resurfacing of the eyelid skin will help activate your own regeneration processes. After 2-3 procedures, even small wrinkles that cannot be removed surgically will go away.
What is a scar? What types of scars are there?
The following types of scars are distinguished:
Normotrophic scarIt does not rise above the surface of the skin, is practically invisible, and is formed during the normal healing ability of the tissue.
Atrophic scarFlesh or whitish in color, slightly retracted into the skin. Usually occurs with minor damage. A type of atrophic scars are post-acne scars (scars after acne).
HypertrophicRough, dense, rises above the surface of the skin. As a rule, it occurs with deep damage to the skin (burns, lacerations). They are often located in the neck, joints and other moving areas prone to permanent injury.
Keloid scarIt is a pathological growth of scar tissue, far beyond the boundaries of the primary scar, bluish or bright pink in color, dense and lumpy to the touch. Often accompanied by pain and itching. The exact cause of keloid has not been established. An important role is played by hereditary predisposition to keloidosis and the location of the injury (ears, sternum and pubic area, etc.). |
Principle of procedure
A laser machine is a station that creates light. A laser beam is a beam of light that consists of precisely ordered waves, precisely aimed parallel to each other. It is this orderliness that allows the resulting beam to be used in medicine and cosmetology.

Each of their chromophores absorbs laser action of its own wavelength and becomes a target during cosmetic laser treatment of the skin. Adjustable wavelength and frequency allow the cosmetologist to selectively influence the structure of the scar without harming other components of the skin.
Why is laser resurfacing expensive?
Laser resurfacing, the cost of which can reach several tens of thousands for a set of procedures, is an expensive cosmetology service. Manufacturing and purchasing a laser machine costs a lot of money. Therefore, procedures performed on expensive equipment cannot be assessed cheaply.
In the manufacture of laser systems for both cosmetology and medicine, artificially grown precious stones and complex multi-stage systems of optical mirrors are used. The laser installation consists of three blocks:
- energy source – electricity supply;
- active body - a detail of energy conversion into a beam of light of a specific type of wave;
- optical system of mirrors - needed for repeated reflection of radiation, sets the purity and wavelength of the beam at the output.
Optical mirror systems in laser systems allow you to set the wavelength and frequency of radiation needed to correct a specific problem area of the skin. If the wave frequency is not calibrated correctly, you can get serious complications or not get the desired result at all.
The name of the laser depends on the active medium used:
- Carbon dioxide (CO2) – the output laser beam is located in the infrared spectrum, the wavelength is up to 10600 nm. Affects mainly water. Widely used for laser resurfacing of scars, including after blepharoplasty;
- Erbium (Erbium YAG). The wavelength is 2940 nm. The influence chromophore is water. Used for laser resurfacing of scars;
- Neodymium (Nd:YAG). The wavelength is 1064 nm. Affects hemoglobin and melanin, is not used for polishing eyelids after blepharoplasty;
- KTP laser. The wavelength is 532 nm. Affects hemoglobin and melanin, not used for resurfacing;
- Alexandrite. The wavelength is 755 nm. It is the gold standard for laser hair removal, but not resurfacing.

The price of one scar resurfacing procedure depends on its size. On average, laser resurfacing of a small scar after blepharoplasty will cost from 600 to 1,500 rubles. If the operation was performed on the lower and upper eyelids, then it will cost 2,400 to 6,000 rubles per session.
Advantages and disadvantages
A clear advantage of using a laser is the ability to quickly and effectively eliminate age-related changes and scars. This option can be used for treating delicate areas; spot application is possible.
The disadvantage of laser correction is its high cost. Sometimes a single session is not enough to get the expected result.
Each procedure requires preparation and rehabilitation. In most cases, the use of a laser is combined with plastic surgery, which ultimately gives the optimal effect.
How is laser correction performed?
Laser correction of postoperative scars on the eyelids is most often performed under local anesthesia. An anesthetic cream is applied to the surface of the scar and the area around it for 10-15 minutes, the surface is covered with a protective film.
After a certain time, a freezing effect appears, which prevents pain during the procedure. Pain relief lasts from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, it all depends on the drug used.
During the time it takes for the anesthetic cream to take effect, the cosmetologist adjusts the laser device: sets the parameters for the depth of beam penetration, the volume of the treated area, the points and the pattern of exposure.
There are several radiation sources located on the laser attachment, which makes it possible to obtain a targeted fractional effect on the skin. As a result, the laser treatment area is not one continuous line, but many small points of burning through the skin.
Upon completion of work with the laser device, the damaged skin is treated with an antiseptic and covered with a layer of healing cream or gel. Minimal soreness and redness may be felt for a few days after the procedure, which is considered the skin's natural response to injury.
Laser blepharoplasty of the lower eyelids is performed using a special cotton pad, which allows you to close the conjunctiva, eyeball and upper eyelid from the action of the laser. This also helps prevent injury from the edges of the nozzle, even if the patient tries to open his eyes during the procedure.
How much does laser blepharoplasty cost?
The cost of eyelid correction in our clinic is determined by two factors: what kind of correction is required and what category of complexity will be assigned to it. These two points are clarified during a personal consultation, when the surgeon conducts an examination and outlines a plan for the future operation.
In general, the price offered for laser blepharoplasty (to quote our clients) is “very pleasant and without surprises.” The surgeon will immediately warn you that anesthesia and tests (preparation for surgery) are not included in the fixed price and are paid separately.

Contraindications and complications
For laser resurfacing, as for any cosmetic procedure, there is a list of contraindications:
- inflammatory processes of the skin at the intended treatment site;
- presence of problems with the heart and blood vessels;
- epilepsy;
- stage of exacerbation of a chronic disease;
- acute infectious viral diseases;
- pregnancy;
- lactation;
- poor healing of the incision area;
- infectious eye diseases.
We recommend: What to apply to scars after upper eyelid blepharoplasty?
Complications may occur after laser eyelid resurfacing, but they occur in only 3% of patients. These include:
- hyperpigmentation of the skin in the treatment area;
- severe redness that appears due to inflammation;
- swelling;
- infection.
After laser eyelid resurfacing after blepharoplasty, a certain amount of time must pass for the incisions to heal. It is strictly prohibited to resurface unhealed skin after blepharoplasty. When the incision heals, natural regeneration processes are activated, which must not be disturbed, otherwise the scar will become large. Moreover, at least 6 months must pass to evaluate the result of the operation. Only then can you laser polish the seams.
The laser skin treatment procedure is safe. But it is important to remember that every procedure, even the most harmless, has a risk of complications.
What approaches exist to the treatment of post-acne scars?
Marks, scars, acne scars are a very common problem, and many patients are interested in how to get rid of it.
To treat post-acne scars (acne scars), various types of peels are often used. However, compared to laser resurfacing, the patient requires many procedures with a long recovery period.
Hirudotherapy is an indispensable method of treating fresh scars. The enzymes contained in leech saliva have a pronounced absorbable and anti-inflammatory effect. With the help of hirudotherapy, a scar can be significantly reduced in size, transform a hypertrophic scar into a normotrophic one, speed up the healing process and prepare for laser removal of scars.
Reviews after laser resurfacing
After blepharoplasty, laser eyelid resurfacing may be indicated as an additional beauty procedure. Reviews about the procedure are almost always positive, as it is a safe and less traumatic way to remove scars. If a specific percentage of patients have complications after the procedure, or the rehabilitation period is not going well.
But these are individual skin characteristics that are impossible to predict. The main thing is to choose a qualified cosmetologist who works with professional and high-quality equipment.

When will I be useful to you?
- If you are about or over 30-35 years old, and you are very concerned about bags (protrusion of orbital fat) under the eyes, which are not corrected by cosmetology.
- You are seriously worried about the hollows under your eyes.
- You are about or over 45 years old and your lower eyelid has become a crease.
- You are about or over 45 years old, and the eyelid below is disfigured by hernias and folds of excess overstretched skin.
- You already had transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty more than 10 years ago, and you would like to improve yourself again.
Depending on one of the above indications, I will select the technique for eyelid correction.
How is lower blepharoplasty done?
The anatomy of the lower eyelid is different from the upper. A more complex structure implies certain difficulties in carrying out the operation. I use three techniques to correct the area under the eyes:
- Seamless transconjunctival
- Rejuvenating with removal of excess skin of the outer lower eyelid
- Anti-aging with immediate removal of excess skin and redistribution of periorbital fat
It is carried out to eliminate such an aesthetic defect as bags (hernias) under the eyes. The main advantage of this technique is the absence of external scars after lower blepharoplasty.
