Is it worth paying so much for a Mendelssohn lift?

Spacelifting (Mendelssohn lifting) - what is it?

Spacelifting (from the English Spacelifting) is the latest method of plastic surgery for facial rejuvenation. Literally a few doctors in Russia have knowledge and experience in using spacelifting. Among them is Vladimir Naumov.

Spacelift technology involves using natural voids for lifting, within which the moving tissues of the face move. The most important advantage of this approach is preserving the individuality of the face. Your face looks younger without retaining the appearance of surgery (as happens with outdated methods of surgery).

“We can say that during the spacelifting operation we again form a young facial frame, fixing the tissues exactly in those places in which they were in youth.”

Naumov Vladimir Viktorovich, plastic surgeon

The essence of the technique

Mendelssohn's anti-aging surgery is based on the use of knowledge of the anatomy of the human face. It contains dense tissues and looser layers, devoid of large vessels and nerves. These are the so-called “spaces”. These areas stretch over time, which leads to ptosis of adjacent tissues. And age immediately appears on your face.

Mendelssohn's method involves moving exactly the “spaces” to their previous position and fixing them. This is done using an endoscope, which eliminates the need for large incisions. Along with the “spaces,” the neighboring areas of the face, consisting of muscle tissue and skin, are also tightened. It becomes younger without losing the naturalness of its features. And since there are few blood vessels and nerve fibers in the “spaces,” everything heals much faster than after a traditional lift.

  • disturbances in the functioning of the cardiovascular system;
  • dermatological pathological processes in the facial area;

If any of the listed conditions are present, you should immediately warn a specialist. Performing manipulations with existing restrictions can provoke the development of undesirable complications, thereby increasing the rehabilitation period.

Areas that will be improved by the Mendelssohn lift

There are several spaces whose movement will lead to a facelift. Therefore, using the Mendelssohn operation you can correct:

  • outer corners of the eyes and eyebrow line;
  • lower eyelids, cheekbone area;
  • cheeks, area around the mouth, depth of the nasolabial fold;
  • lower jaw, corners of the lips, their general line;
  • neck area, chin.

If necessary, a full face lift is performed. But if you need to improve some of its areas, this is also possible.

Advantages of the method

Spacelifting has several obvious advantages:

  • absence of noticeable postoperative scars (sutures are as hidden as possible and are small in size);
  • minimal tissue trauma (vessels are almost not damaged, nerves are not affected, large areas of skin do not need to be peeled off);
  • rapid recovery after the intervention, the ability to be in public within a week;
  • low probability of side effects and complications;
  • absence of severe pain and discomfort during the rehabilitation period;
  • the ability to be supplemented with other rejuvenation methods, including surgical ones;
  • rapid manifestation of the desired effect (it is visible already on the 5th day).

Rehabilitation and recovery period

After surgery, the patient is given a specialized mask, which initially provides fixation of the muscle tissue.

One of the advantages is the absence of swelling and hematoma formations after surgery. There is no need to remove sutures and there are no risks of complications.

It is important to follow all instructions from plastic surgery specialists. This technique is also minimal in terms of discomfort during rehabilitation. The patient's performance is restored within two weeks.

Indications for space lifting

The Mendelssohn technique will be effective for the following problems:

  • pronounced nasolabial furrows;
  • sagging soft tissues in the cheekbone area;
  • ptosis of the upper and lower areas of the cheeks, chin, irregularities in these areas;
  • drooping corners of the mouth;
  • excess fat on the cheeks and under the lower jaw with drooping of these areas;
  • erasing the boundary between the neck and chin;
  • decreased elasticity of the tissues of the middle and lower thirds of the face.

Indications

Spacelifting is carried out strictly according to existing indications. Conditions for which such manipulation is indicated include the following:

  • shaved;
  • mimic and deep wrinkles ;
  • loss of clarity of contours;
  • the formation of pronounced nasolabial folds ;
  • development of ptosis of muscles and skin in the chin area;
  • cheekbones and increased fat deposits above the cheekbones ;
  • the presence of fat in the area between the chin and cervical region;
  • sagging skin.

Lifting around the eyes

Lifting the periorbital area (the area around the eyes) is a type of modern cosmetic procedure that allows you to combat the appearance of the first signs of age-related changes.

Facial plastic surgery is recommended for people after they reach the age of 35, when the face begins to “swim.”

However, Mendelssohn lifting is often carried out not only according to indications, but also as a preventive action in order to prevent premature aging, if a person has a predisposition to this.

Carrying out space lifting

The operation takes 2 - 3 hours, which depends on the scale of the desired changes and the characteristics of age-related manifestations. It consists of several stages:

  • tissue tightening areas are marked on the face;
  • the patient receives intravenous anesthesia as well as local anesthesia;
  • after antiseptic treatment of the skin, an incision is made in the ear area;
  • through the opened access, an endoscope is inserted, transmitting the image of the “spaces” to the screen;
  • these areas are alternately tightened and secured;
  • if necessary, excise excess skin;
  • After the lifting is completed, stitches are applied, then a bandage is applied.

Preparation for surgery:

The Mendelssohn lift is performed under general anesthesia, so in addition to a set of standard blood and urine tests, you need to do an ECG and obtain permission for the operation from an anesthesiologist. At the first meeting, the plastic surgeon will assess the condition of the skin, the severity of ptosis, decide which areas need correction, show where the stitches will be located and give the necessary recommendations for preparing for the intervention. If the patient wants to perform several operations at once “with one anesthesia” - for example, to correct the tip of the nose, the shape of the lips or make corrections on the body - this should also be immediately discussed with the doctor, because spacelifting can be combined with other manipulations. It is also important to inform about the medications that the patient takes on an ongoing basis - then an individual dosage regimen will be selected for him.

Rehabilitation after

The rejuvenation effect will be noticeable after a week. Of these, the patient spends only 2–3 days in the hospital. But the full recovery period will last 2 months. At this time, the patient must adhere to certain rules:

  • Treat the seams with an antiseptic solution twice daily until healing;
  • protect them from water during hygiene procedures;
  • wear the bandage for 2 - 3 days after surgery, do not wash your hair during this time;
  • completely eliminate any physical activity for a week and limit it for the next 20 days;
  • reduce the amount of salt in food for 7 days so that swelling goes away faster;
  • Avoid drinking alcohol for a month and try to avoid cigarettes;
  • for the same period, replace the hot bath with a warm shower, do not go to the bathhouse or swimming pool;
  • do not sunbathe for 2 months, so as not to provoke the growth of scar tissue in the area of the sutures.

Are complications possible?

Despite the low invasiveness of plastic surgery using the Mendelssohn method, the operation in rare cases may not end entirely successfully. Complications after it include:

  • hematomas and seromas;
  • bleeding;
  • inflammatory process in the soft tissues of the face;
  • impaired skin sensitivity (usually numbness);
  • severe swelling that persists for a long time.

Problems occur due to medical errors, ignoring contraindications to intervention, and patient violations of the regimen during rehabilitation.

How is the operation performed?

Preparation for spacelifting is the same as for any other plastic surgery; there is no need to prepare specially. After you have decided to do spacelifting, you need to take tests 1-2 days before the operation and, if no contraindications are found, feel free to do rejuvenation. Hospital stay for 2 days.

Many people are interested in the question: when is it recommended to have surgery, at what age? Dr. Naumov replies that it is not age that determines the operation, but the patient’s indications and desires.

“To what has been said, I can add that SPACE LIFTING is the latest world-class facial rejuvenation technique and for me it is a priority method:

  • it is bloodless;
  • “gentle” anesthesia, due to which there are no side effects of anesthesia (such as headaches);
  • hidden seam in the ear area, which allows you to use short and high hairstyles;
  • fast recovery period;
  • maintaining your individuality;
  • long lasting results;
  • a beautiful, aesthetic, effective operation at the level of art.”

Cost of the procedure

The price of Mendelssohn's rejuvenation surgery varies from 350,000 rubles. up to 500,000 rub. The high cost is explained by the excellent plastic effect with minimal tissue damage. The fact that in the post-Soviet space there are still few specialists proficient in this technique also plays a role in its formation.

Despite the high cost, patients increasingly prefer to undergo space lifting rather than a traditional lift. This method will provide a rejuvenating effect for the next 10 years, regardless of the patient’s age. And if only Mendelssohn lifting is not enough, it can be combined with blepharoplasty, surgical correction of the forehead, and supplemented with hardware cosmetic procedures.
