A modern injection technique for facial correction with fillers is called contour plastic surgery. Using special cocktail compositions, you can correct the shape of the cheekbones, frontal and periorbital area, oval, lips and nasolabial area.
The main advantages of the technique include minimal trauma and quick aesthetic results. But, before deciding on anti-aging procedures, it is important to choose the right composition of the drug, assess the risks, and familiarize yourself with the indications and contraindications for contour plastic surgery.
general description
There are different types of contouring aimed at achieving specific goals. The most popular cosmetic procedures are:
- increasing the volume of the lips, changing their shape;
- elimination of nasolabial lines and deep facial wrinkles;
- elimination of scars, scars, facial asymmetry;
- getting rid of folds in the lips, nose and chin;
- alignment of the nasolacrimal groove and the mesh around the eyes;
- increase or decrease in cheekbones;
Depending on the depth of impact, different injection techniques are used:
- hypodermal (subcutaneous);
- dermal (intradermal);
- intermediate (between the dermis and surface).
Efficiency
Plastic surgery is necessary as a preventive measure against the natural aging process. With its help you can:
- smooth out fine wrinkles and facial folds;
- restore symmetry;
- correct the nasolacrimal groove;
- make the oval of the face clear and expressive;
- smooth out scars and scars;
- tighten cheekbones;
- reduce the intensity of pigmentation.
The quality and duration of the effect depends on the composition of the administered drug.
Fillers with natural substances (hyaluronic acid and its polymers, collagen) provide a good cosmetic effect and act from the inside, as they trigger regenerative processes.
Fillers of synthetic origin (polydimethylsilicone) guarantee instant results while being compatible with the body. If rejection occurs, surgery will be required to remove them.
Preparations with a semi-synthetic composition maintain elasticity well and usually do not provoke negative effects, but are quickly eliminated.
On average, the duration of components is limited to the following periods:
- hyaluronic acid lasts for a year;
- calcium hydroxyapatite lasts up to 24 months;
- collagen – from 6 to 8 months;
- polylactic acid – up to two years;
- permanent fillers – from 10 years and longer.
Nicole Kidman, 52 years old
Nicole Kidman: left - 2010, right - 2021
What is done? From the point of view of a cosmetologist or plastic surgeon, Nicole Kidman looks perfect. The actress resorted to contour plastic surgery: she augmented her cheekbones, chin, corners of her jaw, and lips using fillers. Perhaps the only negative thing to note is the partial loss of facial expressions.
Recommendations: you need to give your face a rest.
Types of fillers
Injections can be carried out with drugs with different active substances.
Permanent. They contain artificial polymers that do not dissolve and are not excreted naturally. They are not used often because they are perceived as foreign substances, attacked by immune cells and rejected.
Buyanov Sergey Yurievich (Expert Doctor):
Non-absorbable polymers last much longer as they remain unchanged. Only accelerated skin aging can lead to loss of the results obtained.
Biocompatible, long-acting. Surgical materials combining natural and synthetic components (polycaprolactone). They are administered without consequences and remain in the body for up to 4 years.
Autologous. They are a natural component (own fat, lipofiller), which is transplanted from one place to another. They do not cause complications and are characterized by long-lasting and sustainable results.
Biocompatible. Absorbable drugs that are ideally compatible with human cells. They may be based on:
- hyaluronate;
- collagen;
- poly-L-lactic acid;
- calcium hydroxyapatite;
- acrylic Powder.
Buyanov Sergey Yurievich (Expert Doctor):
Absorbable drugs have a powerful stimulating effect on the skin's own cells; under the influence of biocompatible agents, fibroblasts are activated, resulting in an increase in the number of elastic fibers.
Svetlana Loboda, 36 years old
Svetlana Loboda: left - 2009, right - 2021
What is done? Svetlana Loboda is the same role model for Russian and Ukrainian girls as Angelina Jolie is for American girls. Pronounced cheekbones, a beautiful oval face, sexy lips - of course, this could not be done without augmentation with fillers, which is fashionable today, but the resulting effect only emphasized the natural beauty of the singer and made her face more interesting and attractive.
Recommendations: none.

Areas of use
Impact area | Effect |
Lips | Hyaluronic acid is injected subcutaneously to create a voluminous shape, correct asymmetry, lift drooping corners, and get rid of dryness and cracks due to moisture deficiency. |
Cheekbones | Fillers are used for sagging cheeks and deformation of the oval of the face. The drugs work in the middle and deep layers of the dermis, replenishing the contour and restoring cells. |
Eyelids | They have thin, sensitive skin, so they age faster than other areas. The purpose of the injections is to smooth out fine wrinkles on the upper eyelids and remove tear grooves. |
Forehead | Rhytidectomy (forehead surgery) is effective if you combine hyaluronic fillers and botulinum toxin preparations - Botox and Dysport. Complete smoothing of deep lines lasts up to a year or longer. |
Nasolabial triangle | It is difficult to identify the cause of the appearance of folds in this area, since the problem is found even in young girls. The correction has no age restrictions and is carried out with thin microneedles. The result lasts for at least a year. |
Nose | Cosmetologists are able to eliminate deformation of the base and wings without surgical intervention. Fillers can correct asymmetry, smooth out the hump and sharp protrusions on the bridge of the nose. |
Important! Different zones require different volumes and densities of filler. The deeper the wrinkles, the greater the viscosity should be. Only a specialist can calculate this optimally.
Lolita Milyavskaya, 55 years old
Lolita Milyavskaya: left - 2011, right - 2021
What is done? The singer resorted to chin liposuction and the installation of aptos threads, as well as injection techniques to improve the condition of the skin and restore volume. All procedures were quite successful: the oval of the face was noticeably tightened. Lolita looks well-groomed, her skin is in good condition.
Recommendations: care procedures and hardware methods to maintain skin tone, biorevitalization.
Indications and contraindications
I recommend injection contouring when surgery is impossible or undesirable, but there are the following aesthetic problems:
- eyebrow fold;
- thin asymmetrical lips;
- small wrinkles between the eyebrows;
- expressionless cheekbones;
- pronounced tear trough;
- facial mesh around lips, eyes;
- it is necessary to restore the contour in the temporal region of the forehead;
- corners of lips downturned;
- acne marks;
- unclear oval face;
- nasolabial folds;
- dark spots;
- birth defects;
- excessive thinness of the face;
- lack of volume on the cheekbones and cheeks;
- presence of bags under the eyes;
- excessive dry skin.
This technique is also used to rejuvenate the neck, hands and décolleté. It is indicated for women and men of any age (from 18 to 60 years old) and produces a cumulative effect.
Correction is prohibited when:
- pregnancy and lactation;
- dermatological diseases;
- herpes;
- exacerbation of chronic ailments;
- oncology, diabetes mellitus;
- hemophilia (poor blood clotting);
- predisposition to the formation of keloid scars;
- previously introduced silicone, laser resurfacing or peeling;
- damage to the skin on the face (ulcers, wounds, burns);
- a large number of moles, papillomas, age spots;
- immunodeficiency (HIV, AIDS);
- mental disorders.
Evelina Bledans, 50 years old
Evelina Bledans: left - 2010, right - 2021
What is done? Contour plastic surgery with fillers is no less popular among Russian celebrities than in the West. One of the successful examples of this technique is demonstrated by actress and TV presenter Evelina Bledans, who had aptos threads installed and augmented with fillers in the lower third of her face and lips.
Recommendations: Evelina’s skin is in excellent condition: well-groomed and moisturized, so there are no special recommendations.

Contour face lifting with hyaluronic acid: PROS and CONS
Compared to surgery, contour face lifting has many advantages. This includes the following points:
- Hyaluronic acid is compatible with the body and is perceived without allergies.
- Correction allows you to rejuvenate the skin and restore metabolic processes.
- Drugs are eliminated from tissues naturally.
- When administered correctly, fillers do not move. They work on different areas of the face.
- Hyaluronate injections do not cause pain.
- The effect lasts up to 12-24 months.
The disadvantages of contour lifting include:
- Presence of contraindications (skin inflammation, infections and rashes, poor blood clotting, pregnancy and breastfeeding).
- Healing period. Swelling, small hematomas and compactions persist for 2-4 days.
- Risk of complications (development of autoimmune pathologies, damage to nerve endings).
Thus, contour plastic surgery has more PROS than CONS. The main thing is to choose a trusted specialist who uses high-quality fillers, and carefully follow the specialist’s recommendations in the subsequent period.

Carrying out plastic surgery
Preparation
Injection plastic surgery, like thread rejuvenation, are minimally invasive treatment methods. The intervention does not require special examinations, but the doctor is obliged to examine the patient’s medical history and assess his general condition.
The specialist determines skin type, vascular patency, and the presence of contraindications. In case of a tendency to allergic reactions, testing is carried out for the compatibility of the components.
A week before the procedure, you should stop taking medications that affect blood clotting and take an antiviral drug. This will prevent the appearance of herpes after surgery. To reduce the likelihood of developing severe swelling, you need to eliminate alcohol and stick to a diet.
The choice of drug depends on the severity and location of the defects, age and gender characteristics. The patient must sign informed consent for the procedure. The following data is entered into the personal card: name of the filler, series, dose, expiration date, puncture sites and anesthesia used.
How it goes
An aesthetic surgeon or dermatocosmetologist has the right to provide injection plastic services.
Filler injection options may vary. Most often, intradermal or subcutaneous injections are made using a transdermal approach, where a needle is inserted through the skin near the defect.
Use syringes with pointed miniature needles or cannulas with a blunt end. The depth depends on the severity of the problem and can vary from 1.6 to 2.8 mm.
On average, the procedure lasts from 30 to 60 minutes and is accompanied by the following actions:
- Cleansing the skin of cosmetics, dust, and impurities.
- Treatment with antiseptics.
- Performing anesthesia (applying anesthetic cream or lidocaine spray).
- Marking the injection points.
- Carrying out injections at the rate of 0.02 ml into each puncture site.
- Facial disinfection.

Healing period
After two hours, the patient returns to his normal life. It is normal if there is slight swelling and redness of the skin surface. This is due to the influx of intercellular fluid to the injured tissues.
Mild pain, burning in the injection area, and minor bruises should also not cause concern. The symptoms are not complications and do not require special treatment.
To evenly distribute the filler, stabilize the result and reduce the recovery period, certain restrictions must be observed:
- postpone sports, visiting the sauna, swimming pool, solarium, beach;
- avoid hypothermia;
- neglect decorative cosmetics;
- do not do massage or any cosmetic procedures;
- When leaving home, apply anti-sun products to your face;
- give up alcoholic drinks.
What happens after the gel is administered?
Immediately after the procedure, the skin may turn slightly red, there may be swelling and slight discomfort. Minor bruising is also possible since the facial area is very well supplied with blood. All these phenomena usually disappear without a trace within a couple of days.
The volume of tissue under the skin increases, the tissue acquires support, a frame, and as a result, the epidermis is slightly stretched. Naturally, at the same time, folds and wrinkles on the skin are straightened, the skin becomes smoother. Over the course of two weeks, the effect gradually increases and becomes more and more natural - swelling subsides, the filler is distributed in the tissues, the face “gets used” to the new contours, and the effect of the procedure is “revealed” to the maximum.
Sometimes it is not possible to achieve the desired result in one go. This depends on the patient’s financial condition, the degree of readiness for the procedures performed, and the desire of the patient himself: either a phased correction or a full face.
In some cases, the doctor may recommend other procedures to enhance the effect - for example, combine with botulinum therapy, hardware techniques or mesothreads.
If for some reason you are forced to undergo repeated procedures with another cosmetologist, be sure to tell him about your previous experiences with contouring - when they happened, what specific filler was used, what was the reaction to it.
Precautionary measures
The contouring procedure is an effective and painless method of rejuvenation.
If it is performed correctly, there are no complications. In case of a negative reaction, the filler should be neutralized. Hyaluronate is removed by injection of hyaluronidase, lidase, or physiotherapy using them.
Collagen, lactic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite are resolved using hardware techniques, since there is no substance neutralizer.
Side effects
- Embolism, tissue necrosis, circulatory disorders. Occur if the drug gets into the vessel.
- Allergy. Individual intolerance to components.
- Fibrosis (tissue scarring in the injection area). The cause of the pathology may be inflammation in the area of injection of the filler or a reaction of the body.
- Purulent-inflammatory processes. They are the result of non-compliance with the rules of asepsis and antisepsis during the procedure and postoperative recommendations.
- Asymmetrical correction, puffiness of the face. Incorrect dosage of filler and poor distribution, migration to other tissues.
Lisa Marie Presley, 50 years old
Lisa Marie Presley: left - 2010, right - 2021
What is done? To maintain the shape of her face, the singer at one time underwent liposuction of her chin, threads were installed, and filler injections were performed. Unfortunately, it was not very successful: the procedures carried out made the face heavier and the cheekbones sagged. When looking at the photographs, it appears that her upper and lower jaws exist separately.
Recommendations: the situation would be corrected by lipolytic injections and augmentation in the cheekbones and temporal area.
Photos before and after
Tissue damage - which is the lesser evil
Advertising for cannula procedures emphasizes that spreading the tissue, as opposed to cutting with a needle, is less harmful to the tissue. It's not like that at all. Any surgeon will confirm that an incision is easier to treat. The same goes for needle and cannula injuries. The needle is a cut wound, the cannula is a torn wound, in which tissue destruction is much greater. A laceration causes fibrosis.
There are procedures in which tissue is filled with hyaluronic acid over large areas. In this case, the drug is administered using a cannula using the fan method, in which it is introduced under the skin in one place, and then it is moved radially, filling the space with microvolumes. After this, the patient looks great, but, unfortunately, after a few months his face becomes somewhat artificial.
Why is this happening? The ruptures create tough fibrous tissue. As a result, when you look at a static face, it looks good, but when you get emotional, the face loses its naturalness.

Advantages of the cannula. Which is better - needles or cannulas?
Advantages of cannulas:
- low-traumatic, do not leave bruises;
- procedures with them are painless;
- are flexible and resistant to deformation;
- penetrate into hard-to-reach places;
- No rehabilitation is required after the intervention.
The use of cannulas is considered safer, since the device is able to bypass obstacles in its path. To insert a tube, you just need to numb the desired area at one point, and then create a channel with a needle. All this makes the cannula an indispensable tool when working with the ocular and temporal region, in the area of superficially located facial vessels and nerves. However, this technique also has its drawbacks: the procedure itself is lengthy and requires certain skills in installing the device.
Unlike a cannula, needles allow for faster manipulation. However, their use is accompanied by pain; after the injections, bruises and bruises may remain. In aesthetic medicine, needles are still used to work with nasolabial folds, lip contours and the tip of the nose. They are used in bolus techniques, vector lifting and bioreinforcement.
Patient reviews
Why are cannulas advertised?
The reason is trivial - we are talking about money. The needle costs less than a cannula for aesthetic medicine. Therefore, the fairy tale about the superiority of a cannula over a needle mainly serves the interests of cannula manufacturers and sellers.
There is another reason. Since a cannula is not as precise as a needle, it uses more drug, which is convenient for both filler manufacturers and doctors, since the cost of the procedure depends on the drug used. But a young appearance is, first of all, the proportions of the face, so rejuvenation does not depend on the amount of the drug, but on the method and tactics of its use.
At an appointment with a cosmetologist
For the success of the procedure, only one thing is required of you - choose a good cosmetologist.
Then the specialist will determine:
- type, color, density of your skin;
- the depth of wrinkles, the place of their greatest localization;
- defects in the oval of the face, cheeks, chin, temples;
- the best material for insertion, its density;
- method of introducing hyaluronic acid;
- frequency of procedures.
Depending on the area of work, contouring lasts 30–40 minutes. Be sure to report any allergic reactions to chicken protein, if any.
A good specialist will be able to make the procedure as painless as possible.
