Mesotherapy with hyaluronic acid: description of the procedure

What is mesotherapy, what reviews and before and after photos can you see on the Internet? These questions arose in the minds of many women. This is a current procedure in cosmetology that helps eliminate many problems associated with the skin of the face, body or hair condition.

Of course, cosmetologists praise mesotherapy and recommend it to their patients. But is it really that effective? What do patient reviews on forums and YouTube, and their before and after photos, say about her?

The essence of the method and its features

Mesotherapy is considered a method of alternative (non-traditional) medicine, the action of which is based on the mechanisms of skin self-healing and activation of metabolic processes in response to the introduction of various irritants and medications. The most common among patients and cosmetologists is injection mesotherapy, which involves subcutaneous or intradermal exfusion of medicinal solutions using a medical needle or cannula. Mechanical effects on the skin with this method of administration cause microtrauma to various layers of the dermis, which leads to stimulation of natural processes of tissue regeneration and repair, improvement of microcirculation in the vessels of the dermis and enhancement of neocollagenesis - the synthesis of fibrillar peptides that make up the subcutaneous framework and ensure the firmness and elasticity of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid injections help activate metabolic processes

There are two types of injection mesotherapy: manual and hardware. With the hardware method, the solution is injected under the skin using special devices with attachments with thin-walled needles. Both methods are quite effective, but cosmetologists prefer manual mesotherapy, since in this case it is possible to control the depth of needle insertion and the degree of distribution of the solution after exfusion. Hardware mesotherapy methods with a high degree of skin intactness also include non-invasive techniques in which hyaluronic acid is introduced under the skin using thermal, light and electromagnetic energy generators (laser therapy, iontophoresis, etc.).

The effectiveness of mesotherapy

The effectiveness of the procedure depends on the following factors:

  • peculiarity of the patient’s body;
  • skin condition;
  • degree of age-related changes;
  • quality of the selected drug;
  • qualification of the cosmetologist performing the procedure.

With experienced therapy, problems that cause inconvenience will no longer bother you. Describing the technique, cosmetologists refer to the amazing effectiveness of:

  • getting rid of small wrinkles;
  • smoothing out deep facial wrinkles;
  • moisturizing effect;
  • combating dry skin;
  • correction of subcutaneous sebum secretion in case of oily skin;
  • resorption of post-acne scars;
  • restoration of skin elasticity;
  • facelift;
  • elimination of the double chin problem;
  • removal of spider veins;
  • fight acne;
  • improvement of complexion;
  • whitening pigment spots;
  • elimination of scars, scars.

The introduction of meso-cocktail allows you to speed up the rehabilitation period after surgical interventions on the face. Excellent results are obtained when recovering from a grinding or peeling session.

Anti-aging is only a small part of the many benefits of hyaluronic acid therapy. The amount of active substances in the composition of the drug for facial mesotherapy allows you to fight cosmetic flaws. The solution is injected in small doses directly into the problem area, promoting targeted action.

Therapy is permissible no more than once a week.

Active substance

The main component of most mesotherapy cocktails for rejuvenation and comprehensive prevention of skin aging is hyaluronic acid. It is a mucopolysaccharide covalently linked to high molecular weight protein compounds with a high degree of glycosylation, in which the carbohydrate part accounts for up to 94% of the total mass of the molecule. Hyaluronic acid is found in high concentrations not only in connective tissue, which makes up 90% of human skin, but also in almost all biological fluids (lubricant, synovial fluid, salivary secretions, etc.), mucous membranes and even nerve cells.

Effect of hyaluronic acid

The main function of hyaluronate in the human body is binding to low molecular weight units of specific proteoglycan proteins, which leads to the attraction and absorption of water molecules. This ensures the elasticity of the collagen layer, normal hydration (degree of moisture) of the skin, a healthy complexion, as well as stimulation of the immune and antioxidant functions, which naturally slow down the physiological aging of the dermis. If there is not enough hyaluronic acid in the skin (and with age its molecular weight decreases), collagen fibers, which normally have a spiral shape, lose their elasticity, loosen and straighten, which leads to sagging skin and the appearance of the first shallow creases, especially in the periorbital and perioral areas .

In addition to absorbing water and regulating skin hydration, hyaluronate also performs other functions, for example:

  • activates the regeneration (self-healing) of the components of the dermis;
  • increases local resistance to negative environmental factors;
  • regulates the processes of cell migration (movement), as well as the proliferative ability of cells (the ability to divide and renew).

Under the influence of hyaluronic acid, the skin renews itself more actively and maintains a healthy appearance longer.

Local administration of hyaluronic cocktails allows you to solve many cosmetological problems that external products cannot cope with: creams, lotions, etc. Hyaluronate molecules consist of glucuronic acid and acetylglucosamine residues, which are interconnected by glycosidic bonds, and therefore have a very large molecular weight, which can reach several hundred thousand atomic units. Such large molecules are not able to migrate from the stratum corneum of the skin to the deep layers of the dermis, so the effect of cosmetics with hyaluronic acid is ineffective.

Important! Mesotherapy allows you to inject hyaluronic acid preparations to the required depth, so this method is effective both for preventive skin care and for its rejuvenation (the needle in this case is inserted to the level of the papillary and reticular layers of the skin).

The effectiveness of hyaluronic acid directly depends on the depth of its penetration into the skin

Injection

Depending on the condition of the skin, the doctor may recommend pre-performing deep cleansing procedures: peeling, resurfacing, physiotherapy. Abrasive effects are carried out 2–3 weeks before mesotherapy sessions.

The beginning of the injection manipulation will be the cleansing and disinfection of the integument. If necessary, an anesthetic is applied to the face using the application method. After 20–30 minutes, mesotherapy begins.

The doctor opens the mesococktail in front of the patient. Using a syringe with a thin needle, the cosmetologist injects the drug according to a pre-planned scheme. Usually the doctor injects the most problematic areas, agreed upon in advance. The cosmetologist inserts a needle into the tissue to a depth of 1.5–4 mm and injects the drug in small doses. Hardware treatment with a mesoinjector is possible.

The session lasts 20–30 minutes. After active actions, the doctor performs a final disinfecting treatment of the skin. It is possible to use a regenerating composition to speed up the healing process. After completing the procedure, you can immediately return to your usual activities.

Effect of therapy

Hyaluronic acid is one of the main components of mesotherapy cocktails, but most of them also contain other substances (one of the main differences between mesotherapy and contouring with fillers, which solves only the problem of mechanical filling of voids in the subdermal space). These can be plant extracts, peptides, collagen, organic and amino acids, vitamins, mineral salts. All these components nourish the skin, saturate it with the elements necessary to maintain beauty and health, and also stimulate immune and antioxidant function, slowing down the aging process.

Cocktails for mesotherapy contain a whole range of substances beneficial for the skin

Clinically, the result of a course of mesotherapy with hyaluronic cocktails (less commonly, single preparations of hyaluronate) is manifested by the following changes:

  • pigment spots become less noticeable;
  • the skin is tightened, shallow folds and creases disappear;
  • the oval of the face becomes clearer;
  • the microrelief of the skin and its turgor (tone) are leveled;
  • manifestations of inflammatory skin pathologies (acne, pimples, comedones) are reduced;
  • dryness and flaking disappear, the skin becomes smoother and more pleasant to the touch;
  • the complexion is evened out, red spots disappear, a beautiful healthy shade appears;
  • Periorbital edema decreases, bags under the eyes disappear.

After mesotherapy, the skin looks tightened, more elastic, and the complexion is evened out.

Hyaluronate injections are especially effective for patients with initial signs of skin aging. After 30 years, the amount of moisture in epidermal cells (as well as in other connective tissue cells, for example, cartilage fibers) gradually decreases, which leads to drying and loosening of the collagen framework of the skin, loss of elasticity and the appearance of the first wrinkles. The introduction of hyaluronic acid helps not only fill the resulting voids and restore skin turgor, but also improve the overall condition of the skin by restoring the hydrodynamics of dermal tissues.

Note! You can evaluate visible changes after mesotherapy with hyaluronic acid immediately after the session, but significant results will be noticeable after about 10-14 days, when the molecules of the active substance attract a sufficient amount of liquid and skin hydration is completely restored.

How does hyaluronic acid work?

Hyaluronic acid used in mesotherapy is not of animal origin, but of synthetic origin . When introduced into the body, it replenishes the natural moisture deficiency in the local area, attracting large quantities of water molecules. Excess fluid helps smooth the skin, giving it the necessary elasticity, eliminating the feeling of dryness and flaking.

Thanks to the complete copying of the composition of hyaluronic acid, which is found in the human body, and several degrees of purification, the synthetic version used in cosmetology does not cause rejection or allergies.

What problems can be corrected with hyaluronic meso-cocktails?

Mesotherapy does not have a limited list of indications for use and can be used in patients with various problems of aging and problematic skin, and can also be used as a preventive procedure in case of high risks of premature aging of the dermis (for example, living in an area with unfavorable climatic and radiation conditions). If there is no history of such risks, most cosmetologists recommend starting mesotherapy procedures no earlier than 30 years of age.

Indications for subdermal administration of hyaluronic acid are:

  • initial signs of skin aging (shallow wrinkles, creases in the eye area, sagging and sagging skin);
  • unhealthy complexion, pathological redness, lifelessness and dullness of the skin;
  • inflammatory skin pathologies beyond the acute stage (acne, pimples, etc.);
  • increased skin dryness;
  • periorbital edema (dark circles and bags under the eyes);
  • vascular pathologies (rosacea, telangiectasia);
  • uneven skin texture.

Mesotherapy is indicated at the first signs of skin aging

Mesotherapy with hyaluronate is also indicated for persons with superficial sunburn. With excessive ultraviolet irradiation, hyaluronic acid in the skin begins to rapidly decompose, while the synthesis of new molecules is suspended. This is the main cause of photoaging in people who abuse artificial or natural tanning, therefore, to compensate for the deficiency of hyaluronate, additional administration of hyaluronic cocktails through mesotherapy techniques is necessary.

Opinion of cosmetologists

Doctors often recommend the use of mesotherapy. Vitamin-based cocktails are considered the most versatile formulations. Cosmetologists recommend a technique for overall maintenance of skin quality at any age. The effect has a great effect on age-related, problem skin.

The cosmetologist is confident in the effectiveness of meso-cocktail injections and applies the technique for various indications.

The cosmetologist recognizes the effectiveness of vitamin injections.

The cosmetologist positively evaluates the technique, but prescribes it solely according to indications.

Description of the procedure

Facial mesotherapy is a fairly simple, minimally invasive procedure, but, nevertheless, it requires some preparation.

Initial consultation

At the initial appointment, the doctor not only diagnoses the skin and identifies existing problems and defects, but also collects a detailed medical history of the patient, including information about lifestyle and work habits. The patient must tell what diseases he suffered from, what medications he took during the last month, and also give truthful information about the presence of bad habits. This is important, since in some cases, for example, with frequent consumption of alcohol in large quantities, the procedure will be practically ineffective and, moreover, can cause serious side effects associated with the effect of ethanol on blood vessels.

The doctor conducts an initial examination and history taking

In some cases, at the next visit (directly on the day of the procedure), the specialist may ask to bring a physician’s report, as well as the results of a clinical examination of urine and blood.

Preparation

During your first appointment, your doctor will also give detailed recommendations on how to prepare for the procedure. No special actions are required for this, but it is necessary to follow these instructions in order to avoid negative consequences.

3 days before the appointed date you must:

  • completely stop drinking alcoholic beverages;
  • exclude from the diet foods and drinks with a lot of caffeine and spicy seasonings;
  • reduce the intensity of physical activity;
  • refuse to visit the solarium (ultraviolet radiation stimulates the breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the cells of the dermis, so ignoring this recommendation may lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of the procedure).

Drinking coffee and alcohol should be stopped three days before the procedure

If the patient is constantly taking any medications, or is currently undergoing a course of treatment, the question of the possibility and need to discontinue them is decided at the first consultation. Taking anticoagulants is a contraindication for mesotherapy: these drugs must be discontinued no later than 72 hours before the injection.

Execution technique

The procedure for mesotherapy with hyaluronic acid is quite simple and short in time: all actions usually take no more than 1 hour. It takes place in several stages, which are performed in strict sequence.

Table. Injection facial mesotherapy with hyaluronate: stages

StageDescription of actions

Visual inspection

Before starting the procedure, the doctor must examine the skin for symptoms of infectious, inflammatory and purulent pathologies, allergic reactions, and also assess the integrity of the skin. If there are abrasions, cuts or other injuries, the procedure is not performed.

Cleansing

The de-makeup procedure is necessary not only to remove residual makeup, but also to cleanse the skin of sebum, dust, dirt and dead skin cells of the epidermis. For this purpose, cosmetologists use soft cleansing mousses and foams that contain vitamins, plant extracts, and also soothe the skin and prepare it for further manipulation.

Anesthesia

An anesthetic gel is applied to the face (Emla gel with prilocaine and lidocaine is most often used). The anesthesia begins to take effect in approximately 20-30 minutes.

Antiseptic treatment

Puncture sites are treated with aqueous solutions of antiseptics: chloramine, furatsilin, chlorhexidine. It is acceptable to use medical grade 70% alcohol.

Marking

The markings are applied with a special washable marker. The puncture points are determined, as a rule, at a distance of no more than 3 mm from each other.
Administration of the drugThe drug is injected under the skin to a depth of up to 4 mm (depending on the purpose of use) using a thin-walled needle or cannula. After insertion, the puncture sites are re-treated with an antiseptic.

If mesotherapy is carried out using hardware methods (for example, using ultrasound or laser), hyaluronic acid is applied to the skin in the form of a highly concentrated gel, after which the doctor begins treatment using special attachments - generators of various energy flows. After the procedure, a soothing cream with B vitamins and panthenol is applied to the skin and the skin is examined for possible complications (swelling, hematomas, burns, etc.).

Hardware mesotherapy

How is the procedure carried out at home?

During home mesotherapy, it is necessary to roll the mesoroller over the skin. As a result, small punctures are obtained, which provokes the activation of regeneration and increased production of one’s own collagen and elastin. But there are a number of nuances that are worth knowing about.

The effect of a home procedure is much worse. In addition, you need to be very careful and follow the rules.

Hair growth procedure

Even at home you can get a positive result. Initially, you need to start preparing the mesoscooter. It is sterilized and dried. The procedure itself is carried out in the following sequence:

ActionPhotoDescription
PreparationWash your hair with normal products and dry it well.
TreatmentUsing any antiseptic (alcohol, hydrogen peroxide), disinfect the scalp.
Carrying out mesotherapyTreat the device with an active product. After this, proceed to the procedure itself. Move the mesoscooter to the back of your head.

If a person carries out such manipulations for the first time, then the skin is processed once. There is no need to rush, you need to move slowly. Minor bruising may occur. Don't be afraid, because this is normal.

Finally, the skin is treated with minoxidil. Next, you should wash your hair using hot water.

Home mesotherapy for face

Initial preparation for the procedure is carried out:

  • cosmetics and dirt are removed;
  • the skin is treated with an antiseptic;
  • The device is sterilized.

The procedure itself has the following stages:

StageInstructionsPhoto
PreparationThe selected product is applied to the face
PerformanceNext is the procedure itself. The main thing is to move the mesoscooter correctly. From the center of the forehead, the device should be led to the temples, from the forehead to the scalp, from the nose to the ears, from the central part of the chin to the ears.
Cleaning the mesoscooterWhen the manipulations are completed, the device is placed in alcohol, after which it needs to be dried.
CompletionA soothing mask is applied to the face, followed by a protective cream.

After such manipulations, slight swelling and redness will appear. They will disappear in a couple of days.

It is better not to carry out a home procedure in the eye area. Leave it to the experts.

Using a mesoscooter at home for weight loss

By using this device at home, you can get rid of excess fat deposits. To do this, you should use 3 different types of means:

  1. Initially, 4 procedures are carried out using substances that can destroy fat.
  2. Next, preparations containing minerals and vitamins are taken. They activate metabolic processes. There should be 5 such sessions.
  3. At the end of home mesotherapy, you should use hyaluronic acid to tighten the skin, make it elastic and pleasant to the touch.

Before the procedure itself, it is worth preparing the body and the apparatus. The skin needs to be cleaned and treated with an antiseptic. And the device must be sterilized and dried.

Treatment in the abdomen and thighs should be carried out using spiral movements. You need to move from the navel to the edges. At the end, it is worth treating the affected area with a protective cream.

To better understand how the procedure is carried out, you can watch thematic videos. To achieve results, it is worth completing a full course, which consists of 4-10 procedures. There should be 1-2 weeks between them.

How does the patient feel?

Many people are concerned about how painful facial mesotherapy with hyaluronic acid is. In this regard, the procedure can be compared to filler injections. The punctures themselves, as a rule, do not cause significant discomfort due to preliminary premedication with anesthetics. During the administration of a mesotherapy cocktail, the patient may feel distension and pressure under the skin associated with a mechanical effect on the subdermal (subcutaneous) structures.

Moderate pain at the puncture sites is acceptable after the procedure, when the anesthetic wears off. This pain may persist for 24 hours, and its intensity should gradually decrease approximately 7-8 hours after the injections. When using microcurrent or laser energy, unpleasant sensations in the form of tingling, burning and pinching are possible, but the procedure is not accompanied by severe pain.

Slight discomfort may be felt during the procedure

Recovery period

Skin care rules, as well as recommendations regarding the regimen and lifestyle after mesotherapy, are common to all patients.

  1. After mesotherapy with hyaluronic acid, sudden temperature changes should not be allowed. Thermal procedures, prolonged exposure to the cold (especially important for persons working in refrigerated rooms or cold warehouses), and the consumption of hot foods and drinks are prohibited.
  2. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation throughout the recovery period must be strictly dosed, since ultraviolet radiation destroys hyaluronic acid, which can lead to a lack of effect from treatment.
  3. During the first 3-5 days, it is advisable not to use decorative cosmetics, not sleep on your stomach and touch your face with your hands to a minimum. You should also not massage the skin.
  4. Power loads are prohibited throughout the entire rehabilitation period.

Any power loads are contraindicated during the rehabilitation period

It is important that during the recovery period the patient does not have problems with microcirculation. It is not recommended to wear clothes that restrict movement, drink alcohol, or drink a lot of coffee and tea (with the exception of herbal teas).

Important! It is necessary to observe the restrictive regime throughout the entire course, the duration of which can be up to 4-5 months.

How many sessions do I need to complete?

Hyaluronic acid is a biodegradable substance that is degraded by hyaluronidase enzymes within a few weeks of administration, necessitating re-exfusion at short intervals. The average duration of a course of mesotherapy with hyaluronic acid is 8-10 procedures, which must be done at intervals of 5-7 days to 2-3 weeks (determined individually). After eliminating the defects, maintenance therapy is carried out, including 1 procedure per month.

To maintain the effect, the procedure must be repeated regularly.

The essence of the technique

Mesotherapy is prescribed to patients in different cases. It could be:

  • desire to eliminate various defects;
  • achieve improvement in the condition of the integument;
  • preventive support for skin.

The cosmetologist individually selects a suitable cocktail of useful ingredients. The drug is administered in microdoses using repeated injections of the problem area. The cosmetologist determines the amount of substance injected into the tissue, the number of injections, and the depth of punctures in a targeted manner.

The most common option is injection of vitamin C. The doctor selects a complex composition based on this substance. A wide range of other components can serve as a supplement:

  • collagen;
  • vitamins A, E;
  • minerals;
  • organic plant extracts;
  • peptides;
  • hyaluronic acid.

Important! Vitamin C injections are carried out in courses. Performing 5–10 sessions with an interval between interventions of 7–10 days, 1–2 times a year is sufficient for local support of the body.

Possible consequences and complications

Negative consequences after mesotherapy are quite rare and are associated mainly with a violation of the technology for administering hyaluronic acid, incorrect dosage determination, insufficient qualifications of the specialist, or the patient’s non-compliance with recommendations for preparation and recovery.

Possible consequences of mesotherapy may be:

  • swelling and hematomas;
  • skin infection;
  • lymphatic edema (occurs against the background of impaired lymph circulation in the lymphatic vessels);
  • cicatricial skin changes;
  • burns (using hardware techniques);
  • pathological change in the structure of connective tissue at the site of exposure.

The consequences of hardware procedures can be burns and redness of the skin.

Allergic reactions after injections occur infrequently (less than 5% of patients). Hyaluronic acid itself rarely causes allergies, since it is a substance related to human tissue. Adverse reactions most often occur to auxiliary components (especially plant extracts), therefore, for people prone to allergies, mesotherapy is carried out only after preliminary allergological diagnosis.

Advantages and disadvantages

Before deciding on mesotherapy, you need to clearly weigh all the pros and cons. The advantages of the procedure include:

  • Only hyaluronic acid provides a powerful facial rejuvenation effect.
  • It is possible to carry out a course of mesotherapy without injections, which reduces the risk of complications.
  • Can be combined and combined with other cosmetic procedures.
  • With due care, it is possible to do it yourself at home.
  • The procedure itself is not very traumatic and causes few complications.

But you should also take into account the following disadvantages:

  • This substance accelerates metabolism in tissues and is released on its own after a few weeks.
  • Addictive. To maintain the effect, you need to carry out the procedure constantly.
  • After injections, bruises, hematomas, and swelling form. It will take time for them to pass. Therefore, after the procedure, some recovery period is needed.
  • The full course takes from 2-3 months to six months. If it is not completed, complications may arise.
  • During the course you will have to adhere to many lifestyle restrictions.
  • This is a rather expensive procedure. One session costs about 3-5 thousand rubles.
  • Due to injections, the skin's protective barrier is disrupted, making it susceptible to infection and inflammation.

Contraindications

Subdermal administration of mesotherapy cocktails with hyaluronic acid is contraindicated in the presence of the following pathologies:

  • acute period of infectious diseases, accompanied by systemic intoxication, hyperthermia, fever;
  • bleeding disorders and hemophilia;
  • oncological pathologies;
  • inflammatory and purulent-inflammatory skin diseases in the acute stage;
  • active form of tuberculosis;
  • immunodeficiency conditions (including autoimmune connective tissue pathologies);
  • somatic diseases in the stage of decompensation, when the disease cannot be controlled with standard drug therapy;
  • schizophrenia;
  • epilepsy.

Mesotherapy is contraindicated in case of general malaise, intoxication of the body

Mesotherapy, like other types of reflexology, is contraindicated for pregnant and lactating women.
