What not to do after hyaluronic acid injections

Home / Hyaluron / What not to do after hyaluronic acid injections

Hyaluron is the most common product used in cosmetology to rejuvenate the face, as well as various parts of the body: hands, knees. If you ignore the recommendations of a cosmetologist, the benefits of the procedures can be turned into harm. Therefore, you need to know exactly what hyaluronate is, what you can’t do after hyaluronic acid injections, and how to care for your skin.

What is hyaluron

Hyaluronic acid is a natural polysaccharide, a polymer substance that fills the intercellular space among collagen and elastin.

It is a natural component of the body, synthesized by its epidermal cells. Starting from the age of thirty, the level of synthesis decreases, and the first signs of skin aging begin to appear.

At this moment cosmetology comes to the rescue. Procedures for introducing an acidic compound into the deep layers of the dermis to moisturize, rejuvenate and correct appearance.

Should I refrain from wearing makeup?

Skin care after biorevitalization also implies some restrictions regarding makeup. For the first two or three days, you should be strict about this, without using any cosmetics. After a few days, you can try to carefully tint your eyes and lips (of course, if they were not affected by injections).

The use of regular makeup products can be resumed no earlier than three weeks later, with a basic application of aloe-based anti-inflammatory gel. The main thing is that the filler is correctly distributed under the skin in a natural way. The restriction in this case applies not only to the use of conventional cosmetics, but also to peelings and massages, which should also be avoided.

Hyaluron in cosmetology

Hyaluronate for cosmetics and preparations is produced by biochemical synthesis: the release of acid from the nutrient medium in which streptococci are placed. A new generation of drugs is made from hyaluronic acid isolated from animal raw materials, which has undergone several levels of purification.

The resulting niauronic acid is processed into a powder or granular state and it is in this form that it is used for the manufacture of cosmetic preparations and cosmetics.

What face masks can you make and what creams can you apply?

It is prohibited to use decorative cosmetics in the first days after the procedure. The places where injections were made must be disinfected every day using a suitable antiseptic solution without alcohol (Miramistin or Chlorhexidine are ideal).

What to apply to the face after biorevitalization - the use of alginate masks or collagen tissue is allowed, but not earlier than two days after the session. In the future, masks can be included in care after biorevitalization, as they will help remove excess fluid from the skin, and swelling will gradually subside.

At a minimum, during the entire wound healing process (2-3 weeks), you should not use powder or foundation, because the skin pores will become clogged and this will interfere with the healing process.

Hyaluronic acid for procedures

Hyaluronan is used in cosmetology to replenish the lack of natural skin hyaluron, correct the oval and shape of the face, for rejuvenation, in order to eliminate signs of age.

Replenishing the deficiency of hyaluronic acid means its introduction into the face and neck area to prolong youth and prevent the first wrinkles.

When correcting facial shapes and volumes, hyaluronic acid is injected to eliminate external imperfections and defects in appearance, to increase the shape of the lips, chest, cheekbones, cheeks, and chin.

For rejuvenation purposes, hyaluronan is used in the form of filler preparations to eliminate or soften deep wrinkles, folds, and grooves.

Additional advice from a cosmetologist on care

Professional cosmetologists recommend that women undergo several peeling sessions shortly before injections. Peeling will promote optimal absorption of the drug by the skin. It is important to consider that the last session is held strictly seven days before the scheduled procedure.

How to care for your face if swelling occurs? To relieve swelling, it is recommended to wipe your face with ice cubes containing soothing herbs (linden infusion, chamomile, plantain juice). All herbs can always be purchased at the pharmacy, and the skin should be treated in this way no earlier than three days later.

After undergoing the procedure, the doctor must give any patient a leaflet that will describe in detail all contraindications and their duration. Also, the doctor must give his contact phone number in case the woman has any questions or unexpected complications arise.

To reduce discomfort and swelling, at first it is recommended to sleep on your back, changing your pillowcase more often. It is advisable to iron bed linen on both sides. The procedure should not be carried out on critical days: if it has already been prescribed, it is better to cancel it in time, because the pain from the injections will be much stronger, and the recovery process may subsequently be delayed.

Cleansing

After the manipulation, you should drink as much water as possible - about two and a half liters per day. You should not drink carbonated water, even mineral water - and then the condition of your skin after suffering stress will improve much faster.

You should not ignore the recommendations to drink clean water - it is water that is the best way to cleanse the body and remove unnecessary amounts of fluid. As for hyaluronic acid, it has the unique ability to attract water molecules to itself, thereby helping to improve skin elasticity in the right amount.

When caring for your facial skin during the rehabilitation period, you should not knead the bumps that formed after the injection of the gel. If the procedure was carried out correctly, they will very soon resolve on their own.

Drugs

Injections with hyaluronic acid are carried out with specialized preparations - fillers.

Filler is an injectable product based on biosynthesized hyaluronic acid. The most widely used are:

  • Juvederm is a drug manufactured in the USA, used in contouring to eliminate age-related changes of various levels;
  • Restylane (L) is an American remedy for eliminating deep wrinkles, folds and pronounced age-related changes in the face;
  • Estelis is a Swiss-made filler preparation that has a targeted effect on facial rejuvenation and contains an additional active substance - collagen;
  • Princess is an Austrian drug, most popular for facial rejuvenation procedures;
  • Surjirem is a French contouring product based on a three-dimensional hyaluronic acid matrix;
  • Puragen - produced in the UK, is considered one of the best drugs for filling wrinkles and replenishing lip volume, contains an anesthetic substance;
  • Ivor Hydro is a French filler for solving specific rejuvenation problems; it retains the rejuvenation effect for a long time, making the skin young and attractive.

How is the procedure done?

Of course, before undergoing biorevitalization, it is important for a woman to find an experienced cosmetologist in advance and receive detailed advice. A specialist can approve this procedure only after a thorough examination, as well as after a series of diagnostic procedures. During the consultation, the client can clarify the specifics of choosing a drug and discuss the treatment strategy. Shortly before the procedure, doctors recommend conducting a preliminary allergy test. Also, the cosmetologist must inform the client about what can and cannot be done before and after biorevitalization of the face. The procedure itself consists of several stages:

  • First, the specialist thoroughly cleanses the client’s skin.
  • Next, a topical anesthetic is applied to the face (usually Emla cream is preferred).
  • After the painkiller takes effect, the doctor begins the process. The skin is usually re-treated with a disinfectant, and then the drug is injected intradermally into predetermined areas. For this, a syringe with a very thin needle is used, so the procedure is practically painless, and sometimes is carried out without any anesthesia at all. Unpleasant sensations may occur in areas of increased sensitivity.
  • The drug is administered intradermally until small nodules appear.
  • At the end of the procedure, the skin is cooled and treated with special anti-inflammatory compounds.

To obtain a lasting result, cosmetologists usually recommend taking a course of procedures (approximately 4-7) with an interval of 1.5-3 weeks. In the future, it is worth conducting one session every 4-6 months to maintain the effect.

How much do you need?

In principle, only a doctor can determine the required volume of the drug for 1 biorevitalization procedure. On average, an ampoule of 1 ml is sufficient for partial treatment of facial skin, but if a specialist is going to work with the entire face, neck and décolleté, up to 3 ml of the drug may be needed.

Experienced cosmetologists prefer to use a new syringe for each individual area.

Indications

When the drug needs to be administered, which brand is preferable, for what purpose is decided by a cosmetologist. This decision is made based on the presence and severity of the problem and the wishes of the client of the cosmetology clinic.

Indications include:

  • Asymmetry, irregularity or lack of facial shape;
  • Elimination of external congenital or acquired defects;
  • Dermatological problems: acne, pimples;
  • Deep hydration with a pronounced lack of acid compounds;
  • Adding volume to the shape of lips, cheeks, cheekbones, chin, and other parts of the body;
  • Pronounced facial wrinkles, grooves;
  • The first signs of age-related skin changes;
  • Elimination of peeling, dryness, tendency to cracks.

Contraindications

Although hyaluronic acid is similar in chemical composition to hyaluron synthesized by the body, there are contraindications for its use:

  • The period of bearing a child, breastfeeding;
  • Severe symptoms of infectious diseases;
  • Exacerbation of chronic diseases;
  • The presence of immune system disorders;
  • Possibility of formation of coarse collagen fibers after injury - keloid scar;
  • Educational processes and rashes of various etiologies in the lip area;
  • Temporary disruption of tissue integrity;
  • Diseases of the circulatory system;
  • Taking medications of a certain category;
  • The severity of an allergic reaction or individual intolerance to the drug.

You cannot use hyaluronic injections if you have previously had permanent makeup done. Also, before the procedure, no other cosmetic manipulations are used on the areas where the filler drug will be injected.

Complications and ways to solve them

As a rule, biorevitalization occurs without complications. Various marks on the skin that remain after injections are considered by cosmetologists to be completely natural consequences of the procedure. But at the same time, the client needs to understand where the line between normal and pathology is and promptly seek medical help.

Bruises

In the thickness of the skin there are a lot of small blood vessels that can be easily damaged by a needle during a puncture. In this case, hemorrhages - hematomas or bruises - naturally appear on the face or body. The risk of their occurrence is especially high with fragility of blood vessels, thin skin, clotting disorders and a significant smoking history.

Small hematomas most often go away on their own within a week. This process can be accelerated with the help of the drugs already mentioned above - Lyoton or Troxevasin.

If large bruises form on the skin, you should definitely consult a doctor. Perhaps such a reaction requires special treatment and is a contraindication for further injections.

Color Changes

Normally, after biorevitalization, the skin may become red or covered with white spots. This is how the body reacts to punctures and the injected product. This reaction usually subsides within a few days, and with low skin sensitivity it can only bother a person for about an hour.

If the skin remains changed longer, which is complemented by other symptoms, you should worry and seek help from a specialist who performed biorevitalization.

Edema

There are several factors that can cause local or total swelling:

  • Uniform and not too pronounced swelling is the body’s natural reaction to vascular damage.
  • The appearance of focal lumps at puncture sites is also an absolutely normal side effect.
  • The formation of individual swollen areas, including several days after the manipulation, may indicate an abnormal immune reaction to the administered drug - an allergy.
  • Sometimes swelling occurs as a result of an excessive amount of drug administered or the wrong choice of drug. It can also be caused by an incorrect injection technique. A responsible approach to choosing a cosmetology clinic will help prevent such complications.

If the swelling is accompanied by redness and/or does not go away for a long time, you should consult a cosmetologist. You should not ignore such symptoms.

Papules

Hyaluronic acid has a high molecular weight and a gel structure. When introduced into the dermal and subdermal space, it naturally leads to the formation of papules - tubercles - on the skin. This reaction is absolutely normal and is observed in 100% of patients after biorevitalization. Papules disappear after 1-3 days, and the speed of their disappearance is determined by a variety of factors - the individual characteristics of the patient and some characteristics of the drug used.

Of course, if the papules do not go away or are accompanied by other health problems, it is important to seek medical help.

Allergy

Allergic reactions are a fairly rare complication of biorevitalization, the risk of which is still present. Moreover, not only hyaluronic acid preparations, but also local anesthetics, disinfectants and other agents used by the doctor can cause unpleasant symptoms. You can suspect an allergy by:

  • Facial redness is not limited to the puncture area.
  • Increasing swelling.
  • Rashes.
  • Burning and itching of the skin.

Sometimes an allergy occurs instantly - even in the cosmetologist’s office. But in some cases it is delayed and appears after the client returns home. If you suspect an allergic reaction, you must seek medical help as soon as possible, since progressive pathology can lead to extremely unpleasant consequences. Before visiting a doctor, you should take an antihistamine.

Acne appeared

Biorevitalization can lead to the appearance of rashes on the skin, and they, in turn, can be:

  • Pustules. Such pimples appear when skin care is not properly taken care of, as well as when an infection may enter the skin directly during manipulation. In particular, microbes can spread if biorevitalization was carried out in the presence of inflammation on the skin and one of the injections was made into a pimple.
  • Manifestation of allergies. In this case, the rashes are small, red and accompanied by itching.
  • A consequence of being in the open sun. Ultraviolet light in combination with hyaluronic acid can activate the sebaceous glands and cause acne.

Do not treat papules as pimples - small elevations at injection points. Such an adverse reaction will go away on its own quite quickly. If we are still talking about rashes, it is better to consult a doctor.

Skin itches and flakes

The itching itself after the procedure bothers many patients and is a consequence of the body’s normal reaction to damage and the administration of the drug. However, the skin should not itch too much, and the discomfort will gradually subside. If your face begins to peel off, this most likely means that:

  • The drug was chosen incorrectly or was not of very high quality.
  • An allergy has developed - in this case, peeling is complemented by redness and itching.
  • Skin is not cared for properly.
  • The skin reacts normally to the intervention (cell renewal), but in this situation the peeling is not too pronounced.

In addition, peeling in combination with itching may occur due to violation of medical recommendations. In particular, such symptoms can be provoked by alcohol, tobacco, energy drinks, or visiting a steam room or the beach.

By-effect

The opposite effect from the procedures is rare, but still occurs. No matter how high-quality the drug is, the injected hyaluron is still a foreign substance that can be perceived by the body as foreign penetration.

Minor changes in general condition may be observed immediately after the procedure, these include:

  • Loss of consciousness;
  • Increased heart rate;
  • Increased blood pressure;
  • Increased body temperature.

Side effects of drugs include:

  • An allergy to the drug after the procedure is quite rare, since an allergy test is performed before the immediate use of hyaluronate;
  • Not a prolonged tingling sensation;
  • Swelling;
  • Cyanosis;
  • Weakness, dizziness;
  • Local inflammation caused by anaerobic pathogens;
  • Localized death of epidermal cells at the site of drug administration, requiring emergency assistance from a specialist;
  • Skin abscess;
  • Coughing, sore throat.

If there is a clear change in the process of administering the drug or due to its inadequate quality, as well as violation of recommendations after injections of hyaluronic acid, the following may be observed:

  • Tissue compaction with the appearance of scars;
  • Local atrophy in the area of hyaluron injection;
  • Blockage of lymphatic ducts at filler injection sites;
  • Violation of the homogeneity of pigment on tissues;
  • Provoking exacerbation of diseases: herpes, lupus, psoriasis, which are in the anamnesis stage;
  • If there is a predisposition, there is a risk of developing benign neoplasms, as well as the possibility of developing autoimmune processes.

In most cases, the appearance of an unsatisfactory condition of a patient in a cosmetology clinic depends on the qualifications of the cosmetologist, on the quality and level of purification of the product used.

What to smear your face after biorevitalization

You can speed up the recovery process not only by observing restrictions, but also by using special ointments and medications. To use any product, even a compress with natural herbs, you should first consult with your cosmetologist. Standard moisturizing creams should not be used for the first few days.

How to get rid of bruises

In some cases, after biorevitalization of the face, bruises appear on the surface of the corrected area. This symptom is not a critical side effect and will go away on its own after a maximum of 10 days.

However, with such war paint, not every woman is ready to lead a normal lifestyle. There are several ways to speed up recovery. These include the use of both pharmacological drugs and folk remedies.

The following pharmaceutical products can be distinguished:

  • Traumeel S;
  • Troxevasin;
  • ointment based on badyagi;
  • heparin ointment;
  • Indomethacin;
  • "Rescuer".

These ointments help speed up the recovery of the dermis several times. Their effectiveness is due to their ability to influence the regenerative function of cells and metabolism, eliminate blood clots, and prevent bruising.

True, according to some experts, the skin should be smeared with medications only in critical situations, because they can affect hyaluronic acid, as a result of which it degrades quite quickly.

But there is an alternative - traditional medicine, which has been tested for decades and is an excellent way to remove bruises. Some of the most effective ones include:

  1. Garlic tincture . To obtain the product, you need to infuse 1 tablespoon of grated garlic in 100 ml of vinegar (9%) for 24 hours. After the infusion, you need to strain and wipe the damaged area with it.
  2. Potato juice . A fairly effective remedy, with the use of which the bruise will disappear within a day. To achieve the result, grate the root vegetable and apply the resulting mass to the damaged area. It is recommended to keep the natural compress for 2-3 hours, then replace it with a fresh one.
  3. Saline solution . Prepared at the rate of 20 g of salt per glass of water. The bandage with the sponge soaked in the solution is changed every 3-4 hours.

How to relieve swelling

Swelling is a common problem characteristic of the rehabilitation period after biorevitalization of the face. In itself, it is an accumulation of lymph in the subcutaneous space. It occurs due to individual characteristics of a person or due to incorrect work of a specialist.

A fairly simple and effective way to relieve swelling is to apply ointment. However, you should consult your doctor before using it.

Among the popular drugs are:

  1. Hirudin . Contains extract from leeches. Helps accelerate lymph flow and lightly thin the blood. Use is recommended from the 3rd day of rehabilitation.
  2. Traumeel . A natural preparation based on extracts of medicinal herbs.
  3. Troxevasin . Helps strengthen capillaries and blood vessels. Relieves inflammation. Contains troxerutin.
  4. Heparin ointment . Has an anti-inflammatory effect. Perfectly relieves discomfort if the corrected area is swollen and painful.
  5. Dexpanthenol . It is often used not only to eliminate swelling, but also if redness and inflammation appear at the injection site. When used on sensitive skin, it may cause an allergic reaction.

Folk remedies are no less effective - at a low cost, they help to effectively treat the resulting swelling.

To relieve swelling, you can use ice cubes made from soft water. Flow-through - with impurities will only worsen the situation. Natural infusions of eucalyptus, calendula, linden, chamomile or St. John's wort are suitable as a base. To prevent your skin from getting cold burns, place the ice cube in a clean, lint-free cloth.

Bagged tea (exclusively in its pure form without flavorings or additives) or potato juice will also do the job perfectly.

Buyanov Sergey Yurievich (Expert Doctor):

It should be borne in mind that the fight against bruises is necessarily accompanied by increased blood flow at the sites of application of drugs, which leads to a local increase in temperature. Due to this, the effect of biorevitalization is reduced.

The procedure and its result

Cosmetic manipulations with hyaluronate last from half an hour to an hour and a half, which depends on the scale of the correction and the level of the problem. During this time the specialist:

  • Cleanses the skin of makeup and dirt;
  • Conducts cleaning with bactericidal agents;
  • Provides pain relief if necessary or at the request of the client;
  • During direct control of the patient, open the packaging of a sterile syringe with a thin soft needle filled with filler;
  • Injects the drug into problem areas to correct appearance;
  • Performs a massage to evenly distribute the product;
  • Treats the skin with an antiseptic solution;
  • Apply anti-inflammatory, decongestant creams or ointments.

What does the face look like after injections of hyaluronic acid - for some time, on average three to five days, slight swelling persists, redness of the skin and the appearance of bruises are possible.

After a week, the result is clearly noticeable: deep wrinkles are smoothed out, small folds are eliminated, the skin looks attractive: it acquires a natural shade, is smoothed, tightened, becomes soft, moisturized, and elastic. Ovals and contours take on a natural and youthful appearance.

Main recommendations after the procedure

After completing the process of introducing fillers, the cosmetologist stipulates what exactly should not be done after injections of hyaluronic acid.

Places where additional ultraviolet radiation is received - the beach and solarium - are prohibited; this can lead to disproportionate pigmentation of the tissue layers of the dermis.

You cannot lie on your face while sleeping or resting at night, and you also do not need to take a fairly horizontal position - this can negatively affect the condition of the skin, cause an influx of blood and lymph, which will worsen the result.

Visits to baths or saunas, hot water treatments are postponed for at least three weeks, since exposure to high temperatures causes the filler to become deformed and not evenly distributed.

The use of cosmetics will negatively affect your appearance: lipstick, foundation and other types of cosmetics; this is associated with a high risk of developing inflammatory reactions.

To ensure uniform distribution of hyaluronic acid, you should not touch your face with your hands, feel it or knead it during the first day. Active facial expressions and kissing should be limited for several days.

To prevent further injury to the delicate and manipulated skin, it is not recommended to apply additional aggressive cosmetic procedures for approximately two weeks.

What you should not do after injections of hyaluronic acid - drink strong drinks, eat spicy and hot food - high temperatures, alcohol, irritating food seasonings will negatively affect the condition of the filler drug, which will accordingly affect the result.

Knowing what not to do after the procedure and strictly following simple recommendations, the patient at the beauty salon helps improve the results of the injected hyaluronic acid.

How long does the training ban last?

Only a doctor can tell how long you can’t play sports after biorevitalization, based on how well the skin is restored and how quickly side effects, manifested in the form of swelling and pinpoint marks from needle insertion, go away. However, there are not only individual norms, but also very average ones, on which the “prescribed” break from physical activity depends. They are as follows:

  • We can absolutely say that a week’s rest is a constant for all visitors to a beauty salon. This duration is specifically related to the fact that over such a period of time, hyaluronic acid will definitely “disperse” throughout the entire skin and its removal will no longer be possible due to accelerated metabolism and increased sweating.
  • To engage in more vigorous, dynamic activities, you should allow the body to receive a two-week rehabilitation period so that it is absolutely safe to engage in sports after biorevitalization.

  • Returning to your life filled with training and activities should be carried out gradually, starting with static rather than dynamic types of physical activity. Excellent adaptation options would be stretching, yoga and similar not very active methods of improving the body.
  • In the case of training with various weights or weights, you need to wait at least 10-12 days, during which the cocktail will definitely have its effect and literally “familiarize” with the skin. But we should not forget that returning to the gym without the necessary “introductory classes” should also occur gradually.

It won’t hurt at all to use various products whose action is aimed at protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays “produced” by the sun. The protective factor of the cosmetics used must be at least 25 (the higher, the better). In order not to disrupt the natural healing process, beads of sweat should be removed from the damaged area as often as possible.

A hat that will help protect your face from radiation will be an excellent addition to a tracksuit.
